Sung From The Heart

Chapter 13: The Past Joins The Future

"Li,"

"Hai,"

"Kinomoto,"

As she ran as fast as she could to the classroom, she heard her name just as she entered the class.

"Hai!"

Then as Sensei continued with the list, Eriol approached her.

"We though you might not make it," he said, his deep blue eyes twinkling behind his glasses.

Smiling shakily, she noticed Syaoran standing near, as still as stone.

"How can he stand so still?" she whispered to Eriol.

(A.N: Sakura knows Eriol is the reincarnation Clow Reed.)

"He's been taught from birth to stand still and fight for his life," replied Eriol, eyes flashing angrily.

Images of a young boy being beaten floated into her mind. Shivering, she pushed them away.

Then as Sensei completed the count of students here, she grabbed her duffel bag as the bus driver loaded their suitcases. Drawing away from the group she followed Tomoyo as they headed to the bus. Smiling cheerfully, she waved to Rika, Naoko and Chiharu. As they smiled and waved back, Sakura sighed, content.

Settling into the soft worn leather seat, Sakura hummed happily. She had everything she needed, friends, clothes and plenty of fun in the sun. She had even let Kero come in his diminutive form.

'Wait If I brought Kero, and put him in my duffel bag That means only one thing' she thought as she quickly grabbed her duffel which lay at her feet.

Scrambling to open it, she unzipped it to find

A blue unconscious Kero, while she sweat-dropped.

"Opps" she whispered as Tomoyo sat next to her, giggling.

"Sakura, Eriol and Syaoran are sharing our bungalow with us You don't mind do you?" she said, giggling away a bit starry-eyed thinking of her long time crush, a certain blue haired guy.

"Sure! I don't mind!" she smiled, happy as the bus rumbled on.

To her right, not as close as Tomoyo was to Sakura, Syaoran was sitting, staring out the window.

Pondering about when he had left his mother and four older sisters back in China.

(Flashback)

"Ohhh! Little Brother is going to Japan!" Fanren exclaimed, her hands clasped together, eyes sparkling.

Her other three sisters followed her actions and their little brother, amber eyes frowning, sighed.

'They would never change,' he thought for they always acted this way.

He was travelling to Japan, following his mother's vision of finding her. His bride. The one who he had been destined to be with. Truth to be told, he wasn't really enthusiastic about it all for he had never really known girls well except his four sisters and his mother.

"Xiao Lang follow me" called Yelan, his mother. As he followed his mother, leaving his four sisters chattering in the dining room, he smirked.

'I'll be free soon' he thought to himself, not at all weary for all the steps that he was taking after his mother. They were going up an old oak staircase, which led to the tallest tower in their mansion.

He'd never been up here before, in fact, there had always been a mystery that lingered around it. No one was allowed to speak of it so the matter had been pushed away into the back of his mind.

Finally they reached a landing and down a corridor, that was lit and fairly clean, there was a door that seemed untouched for many, many years. As they approached, Syaoran felt a shudder go through him. A puzzle in his mind seemed to be finally put together. For unusual as it seemed, life didn't seem complete to Syaoran and as long as he remembered, he felt as is something was missing.

His mother stopped at the door, motioning him forward. Hesitantly, he moved forward, his hand poised above the brass doorhandle. Looking towards his mother, he was startled to see a longing in her eyes as if she was seeing someone else in him. As she nodded, he obligingly grasped the cool metal handle and pushed the door open.

It creaked open, and Syaoran gasped silently. Wondering what kind of joke this was. For the room, was dusty, but amazingly, the room had similar things to his own room in the mansion. The dcor was the same, objects and draperies were the same and about the only things that were different were picture frames that were on the table and the chest of drawers.

Yelan Li smiled sadly.

'His destiny is starting' she thought, knowing that this was the right thing to do. Then pausing before at the door, she turned to the staircase, letting her son discover the old, forgotten past.

Syaoran's callused hand went slowly across the old green room, feeling and touching items of familiarity that belonged in his room. Everything was identical, even the way his chair was after he had left it when he was in a hurry. Finally he stopped to look at the only unfamiliar picture frames around his room. Holding it up, while wiping the dust away, he was startled at the emerald eyes that stared at his in the friendliest way.

Finally after cleaning the whole picture frame from dust, he stared at the girl in the picture as if he'd met her before. She was laughing, eyes laughing and twinkling, while the Japanese national flower, the cherry blossom, fell all around her.

Moving towards the other picture frames, they all uncovered the same girl, sometimes shown with another girl with purple hair.

'Who are you?' he asked her silently, his amber eyes troubled. Putting all the photos down, he scanned the room for anything else he missed. A green ribbon poked out from the back of the wardrobe.

Frowning slightly, he pulled it, wary of sudden things popping out. Instead, something clicked, and behind him, something moved. Turning around quickly, he saw a hidden drawer was sticking out of the bedside chest.

"What the?" he asked, mumbling to the silent room.

The secret drawer that was poking out of the bedside chest, looked as if it had been used often. In this secret drawer, there was a green box, drawn with intricate designs and Syaoran recognised with a shock, the Clow designs.

Picking it up, he felt the hefty weight, though it didn't trouble him, he knew there was items there were most likely fragile. Sitting down, Indian style, he opened it, shivering as unknown hazy memories filled his mind.

'Blossom petals,' he realised, 'Cherry blossoms,' as he touched the dried pink petals, their long gone fragrance lingering around. An old pink teddy bear, looking like it had been worn out from long loving, an old elaborate metal key brown with rust and dirt. He held in his hand, warming it then slipped it into his pocket of his jeans.

'I'll ask Mama later and if she doesn't know, I'll find it myself,' thinking with promise.

Finally, looking through tapes and cassettes that were old and useless, he came upon a silver frame.

Engraved in it, were peonies and cherry blossoms, and the names
Sakura and Syaoran. The picture itself gave Syaoran a blush. It showed that same girl, who he assumed, was 'Sakura' and to his shock, himself. The two of them was pictured cuddling as the looked at each other with a look of pure adoration.

'Was this he?'

(End Of Flashback)

"Syaoran!"

Shocked out of his memories, he turned quickly to the person who had called. Sakura giggled at the bewildered look on his face.

"Come on! We're here!" she said, smiling brightly.

Blushing lightly, being reminded by the picture, he nodded and got up to help carry their belongings.

Blinking in the warm sunlight, he quickly carried the girls' duffel bags and his while Eriol pulled his and Syaoran's suitcases and accompanied the girls as they pulled theirs.

As the whole class got to the hotel, Sensei Wurushi handed the keys and numbers to the bungalows, and then they all departed to their assorted bungalows. Waving to Chiharu, Naoko, Rika and Yamazaki who were in a bungalow together, Sakura followed the footpath that went up to a hill, which overlooked the cove, as Tomoyo, Eriol and Syaoran followed with their luggage.

She sighed happily as she saw the lovely sight that greeted her eyes. A homey bungalow with a wind chime that tinkled and blew in the wind greeted her. Eagerly, she bounded up to the bungalow and quickly opened the door with her set of keys.

Bouncing around and into all the rooms, she peeped into all the cupboards and quickly claimed her room as the others finally entered the building.

Singing softly, while Tomoyo chuckled, she started to unpack.

Just in time for the Chapter 14 bus!
