Chapter 2: Revelations

[Remember when
I was in
The grocery store
Now's my time]

"Andy!!!" Dana shouted while running from where she was seated towards the entrance of the Garage when she saw Andy walk in.

Andy almost lost his balance when Dana ran into him. The next thing he knew, Dana arms were around his neck, the side of her face on his chest as if listening to his heart. But he's used to this now.

Dana looked up at him, eyes sparkly and all and said "Andy, you should have seen! I did a kick flip!!! I practiced and practiced and practiced even more and I finally did it!!! It was so kewl!" Dana was like a little girl who just learned to dribble a ball.

"That's great! Hey have you Ricky?"

"Says he ain't coming. He's out on a date"

"Whoa. Ricky Fox is out on a date 2 months after he got shot, he's back in business.. Anyway, I'm dropping by Tony's. Wanna come? My treat. Your fave: Chocolate milkshake with 2 scoops of ice cream on top."

"What's the occasion?"

"Nothin."

"Fine then. Come on! Chok'lit mi'shake, here we come!!"

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

25 mins later. Tony's Shack.

"Finally!" Andy said as he slumped into the booth where Dana was waiting for him. "Here you go! One extra large chocolate milkshake with 3 scoops of ice cream on top, topped with chocolate syrup, sprinkles and some nuts and cherries. Extra special just for ya. Enjoy!"

"Gee! Thank you soooo much, Andy! Want some?"

"Nah! I'm not in the mood for shakes I'm fine with my burgers, fries and soda"

"Oh OK"

There was silence between them for a while. Then Dana asked out the blue "Hey Andy, have you ever been in love?"

"Hmmmm. Actually yeah. I have my eyes on a girl right now, I just don't know when to tell her, I don't know how to tell her"

"Well then, welcome to the club!"

"Is that so? He's one lucky guy then."

"Lucky?! HA! He couldn't even see the tons of hints I've been dropping! And I mean tns! S'bout time I complain you know. I've been waiting for a long time now."

Andy could just shrug. He stared into space for a second or two before gesturing Dana to resume drinking the shake. Dana's words hit him like a pile of bricks. That made him start thinking.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Two weeks later. Andy's Room.

//Dana, I wanna tell ya something. I grrr. Shit. I can't even say the damn thing straight in her face. Fuck.//

Andy's lying on his bed, arms behind his head, staring at the ceiling-as usual, thinking about Dana, what and how he's gonna tell her; possibly rehearsing how to say it.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Two days later. Tony's Shack.

[Lost the words
Lost the nerve
Lost the girl
Left the line]

"Dana, I wanna tell you something. Promise you wont laugh or get angry."

"I'll try.. what's it about?"

"Well Oh fuck" Andy took a deep breath before proceeding. "I've been wanting to tell you that I like you so much. // There! Finally said it out loud.// For the past two months, I've been debating with myself on how I'm gonna tell it to ya and when."

"I realized that it might not be so bad to tell you. You could scoff at me, curse or hate me, even make fun of me. I won't give a damn. All I want is that you know what I feel for you."

Silence.

There was tension between the two of them. Both are obviously nervous.

Dana exhaled sharply. "Wow. Do you know how long I've been waiting for you to say that? Since the day you first taught me how to skate, I had a crush on you, maybe even before that, Andy. I got tired of waiting and dropping hints. I always thought I ought to let you know but I can't. Guess I have no guts to do it."

"Really? The I do have a chance-"

"No. Two weeks ago, you had the chance. But Andy, I'm going out with someone else. I'm tired of waiting plus I always had it in my mind that never, not in a million years, would you like me or ask me out. It was wishing for something I can't have, waiting for something that wouldn't come."

"It hurts, Andy." By this time, tears were streaming down Dana's face. "It's so ironic that now when I'm going out with someone else, the guy of my dreams tells me that he like me but he told me a little too late too late that hurts, you know."

Andy could only nod, amazed by the revelation.

"Andy, you aren't angry, are you?"

"I'm angry at myself, not at you. I a way, I'm grateful at you, I guess. At least you didn't have to lie. I does hurt but Hey, it's not your fault that I'm not good in reading between the lines heck, I'm not even good at anything in this world"

"Don't say that. You're really good at things, you just placed it in your head that you suck but you don't. Andy, I'm really sorry, I really am"

"Hey, don't cry. Its not your fault really. Please stop crying. Don't blame yourself. It's all my fault, you know." Andy reached over the table and wiped Dana's tears away with his thumb. "Come on, I'll walk you home. Tony's too crowded."

[I would wish
Upon a star
But that star
It doesn't shine]

They walked out of Tony's side by side. They stopped for a while maybe to assess the situation if it was real. Andy looked at the sky. It was cloudless and beautiful. The black background with hundreds of twinkling stars and the bright, round moon.

Convinced that this wasn't a dream after all, Dana placed an arm behind Andy's hips and placed her head on his right chest, wetting his shirt with her tears. She could hear the rhythmic beat of his heart.

As for Andy, he looked at Dana. No words could describe his feelings. All he could do was put his right arm across her shoulders, comforting her.

The walk to Dana's house was resumed. No one spoke a word. To speak was to shatter their one last perfect moment together.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

It was supposed to be a romantic night. The cloudless sky with all the stars twinkling here and there with the bright, round moon. It was a night where the crickets chirped and the wind was not too chilly nor too humid.

It was supposed to be a perfect night. But for Andy and Dana, that night will never be forgotten. True, it was full of painful yet treasured memories that were too precious to waste. Though they chose separate paths, maybe one day, their paths would cross again

[So read my book
with a boring ending
a short story
of a lonely guy]

[I fell behind]

[She makes me feel like it's raining outside.
And when the storm's gone I'm all torn up inside.
I'm always nervous on days like this like the prom.
I get too scared to move coz I'm still just a stupid, worthless boy.]
