Settings
You start out the game by setting the game's internal clock. After that Oak will explain the world of Pokemon again and then you will get to choose your name. In Crystal you will be able to choose between a boy or girl character.

Your House
Finally, you'll start out in your room, head downstairs to have a talk with your mom. She'll give you your Poke Gear. She'll also ask what day it is, and whether or not it is Daylight Savings Time or not. After that she will give you the option of where she'll keep some of your money for you when you win battles. That way, just in case you "white out" (it's not black out anymore for some reason) you'll still have money at your house. Occasionally throughout the game, your mom will use some of the money she keeps to buy things for you which you can take out of your Computer anywhere in the game.

Professor Elm's Lab - Choose Your Pokemon
After all that, head outside and go to the large building on the left. Once inside you'll meet the Pokemon Professor of the game. His name is Professor Elm and after a talk, he will let you choose one of three starting Pokemon: Chikorita the Grass Pokemon; Cyndaquil the Fire Pokemon; and Totodile the Water Pokemon. After choosing your starter Pokemon Elm will exchange Phone numbers, and tell you that the machine in the corner heals Pokemon. He'll also tell you to go find his friend, Mr. Pokemon. Next head outside and start exploring.

Tuscany of Tuesday
About in the middle of Route 29 on Tuesdays, there is a girl named Tuscany that will show up. She has brothers and sisters who will also show up on certain days during the week (Monica of Monday, Wesley of Wednesday, Arthur of Thursday, Frieda of Friday, Santos of Saturday, and Sunny of Sunday). They give you special items that you can attach to your Pokemon that increase a certain attack depending on the item. Tuscany will give you a Pink Bow which increases Normal attacks.

Cherrygrove City
Next you'll want to try to find Mr. Pokemon. You'll pass through a town called Cherrygrove City to get to him. When you first enter Cherrygrove City talk to the old man below you. He will show you the town and then give you a Map card for your PokeGear.

Mr. Pokemon & Professor Oak
You'll eventually find Mr. Pokemon's house since one of the paths is blocked by two battling trainers. Mr. Pokemon will introduce himself and then Professor Oak will talk to you and give you a high-tech version of the Pokedex. Oak then leaves to go do his very popular radio show. You'll take a rest, and when you exit the building Elm calls you and tells you to come back to New Bark Town, something has happened!

Your Rival
Someone has stolen one of Elm's Pokemon, and just your luck it's the one that has the advantage over yours. Well, it looks like you just found your new rival.

Back To New Bark Town
Head back and talk with Professor Elm to see what was going on. You'll then name your Rival. On your way out of the Lab, the Scientist at the bottom will give you 5 Poke balls. When you exit the city a guy named Dude will want to show you how to use your new Poke balls to catch Pokemon.

Violet City Gym - Zephyr Badge (#1)
After battling and capturing some of the new and old Pokemon you'll be ready to take on the local gym leader, Falkner. He uses bird Pokemon and is not difficult to defeat. Once you beat Falkner he will give you the Zephyr Badge. The Zephyr Badge raises your Pokemon's attack power. It will allow you to use Flash anytime. Falkner also gives you TM31, Mud-Slap.

Togepi
After defeating Falkner, Professor Elm will call you and tell you that they have found out something about he Mysterious Egg you gave to him earlier. A Scientist will show up in the Violet City Poke Center. Talk to him and he will give you the Pokemon Egg (you must have one slot open for it in your Pokemon lineup.)
The Egg will hatch after you walk so many steps and turn into Togepi. There is a man blocking the most southern exit of this town and if you don't get Togepi you can't get through.
There's also a house in Violet that you can trade a Bellsprout for an Onix. The level will depend on what level your Bellsprout is because whenever you trade a Pokemon to a person in the game, their Pokemon will be the same level as yours.

Sprout Tower
In Violet (Kikyou) City head north to find the Sprout Tower. You'll encounter Sages with Bellsprout and the occasional Hoothoot. At the top your Rival beats the head Sage and runs off after talking to you. Defeat the Sage and he will give you HM05, Flash.

Puzzle
Next you can head west of Violet City and run into a cave entrance. Inside will be a puzzle that you have to put together. Once you discover it was Kabuto, the floor will drop out and down you will fall into the cave below. (If nothing happens, you put the puzzle together wrong) Inside are a bunch of Pokemon called Unown. They have no gender, but they do have many different shapes. Don't get confused though, they all have the same Pokedex entry. To unlock more shapes you will have to surf, strength, break rocks, towards the 3 other entrances to the cave (Like the Kabuto one where there is a puzzle to solve.) You can find them by surfing on the Lower Level of Union Cave. You need Strength to get to two of them. The Ho-oh Puzzle, and the Omanyte Puzzle.

"Unown-Dex"
After you solve all the puzzles go into the cave and catch 3 different Unown shapes. Exit the cave and a Scientist will upgrade your Pokedex for you. Now after you catch a Annon shape it will be recorded under here and you can take a look to see which ones you have by pressing Select while in the Pokedex and then choosing the last option. After collecting all 26 Unown, talk to the scientist again and he will let you print out your Unown shapes.
When looking in this part of the Pokedex you will notice that every Unown make up a different letter of the English Alphabet. Here are the words found after each letter:
A......ANGRY
B......BEAR
C......CHASE
D......DIRECT
E......ENGAGE
F......FIND
G......GIVE
H......HELP
I......INCREASE
J......JOIN
K......KEEP
L......LAUGH
M......MAKE
N......NUZZLE
O......OBSERVE
P......PERFORM
Q......QUICKEN

S......SEARCH
T......TELL
U......UNDO
V......VANISH
W......WANT
X......XXXXX
Y......YIELD

Treasure Room
There are now treasure rooms coming from the Puzzle Rooms in Pokemon Crystal. You must look at the Unown word spelled out (Escape, Mystic, Light and Ho-Oh) and do the appropriate action (Use Escape Rope in chamber; attach Mystic Water to lead Pokemon while in chamber; use Flash while in chamber; Move Ho-Oh to the lead Pokemon spot in chamber). Doing this will bring you to a treasure room where there are four items. The treasures aren't really that valuable most of the time, but it's still worth it.

Old Rod
Next you'll encounter a lone Poke Center on Route 32. Inside is a Fishing Guru, talk to him and you'll get yourself an Old Fishing rod. Continue on and you'll pass through a cave with Trainers and rock-type Pokemon inside. If you look on Friday nights you can find Lapras deep within the cave if you have Surf.

TM 39 - Swift
Inside Union Cave you can find TM 39, Swift. It's on the Lower Level of Union Cave. You don't need Surf, Cut, or any other HM to get to it.

TM 05 - Roar
After getting Cut later in Ilex Forest, come back and talk to the guy. He'll give you TM 05 just for talking to him.

Frieda of Friday
On Friday, right above the PokeCenter, Frieda of Friday will appear. All throughout the game are scattered her brothers and sisters, and they will only appear on certain days. They will give you items that you can attach to your Pokemon to make their attacks stronger.

Slowpoke Town
After exiting the tunnel you'll find Team Rocket guarding a well and the local Gym. Well it seems that Team Rocket has kidnapped all the Slowpokes from the town. First you'll need to talk to Kurt in the house right above the Gym. He'll move the Rocket member guarding the well. Next it's your turn to defeat the Rocket members. Once defeated, the Gym will open and you'll be able to fight Bugsy.

King's Rock - TM 18
(Rain Dance)

Later after you get HM 04, Strength, return to Slowpoke Well and go to the Lower Level. Here you'll find the King's Rock (which will evolve Slowpoke or Poliwhirl when you attach it to them and trade them to another Game Boy.) You can also find TM 18, Rain Dance.

Kurt - Apricorns
After defeating the Rocket members in the well, Kurt will take you back to his house and give you a Lure Ball. Lure Balls are used to catch Pokemon hooked by a Rod (from fishing). He'll also make more special Poke balls from Apricorns that you can get from plants scattered throughout the game. For example, the plant behind his house will give you White Apricorns, and they are then made into a Fast Ball. Fast Balls are used to catch fast Pokemon. In Crystal, you can leave up to 99 Apricorns of the same kind with Kurt. In the same amount of time that you would get one, you would get the same number of Poke balls that you did Apricorns!

Azalea Gym - Hive Badge (#2)
Bugsy uses 3 Bug-type Pokemon. So if you chose Cyndaquil as your starter Pokemon you will really have the advantage, especially against Scyther. Bugsy will give you the Hive Badge which lets all Pokemon up to level 30 obey you, and also lets your Pokemon use Cut outside of battle. She also gives you TM49, Fury Cutter.

Rival - Round 2
Hey, your Rival is back. This time it won't be as easy as the first time. You'll encounter your rival right on the edge of Azalea Town, when you try to leave.

Togepi
Around this time in Azalea Town, Togepi's egg should hatch. You can head back all the way to New Bark Town and show Professor Elm now. When you do, he'll give you the Everstone, which won't allow a Pokemon to evolve if that Pokemon carries it.

HM01 - Cut
After you leave Azalea Town you'll enter a forest. You'll see a man standing near a cutable bush. Talk to him and he'll tell you that his boss's Farfetch'd ran away. After him you will see the Farfetch'd by itself. Chase it around until it reaches the man by the cut-able bush. Talk to the new man and he will give you Cut. Now Cut that cut-able bush to get passed the only one Blocking your path. A new feature in Gold/Silver is that you can just go up to the bush, press A, and it will get cut down if you have a Pokemon with Cut in your lineup. The same goes for Boulders, and that Tree that will come up later.

TM02 - Headbutt
Inside the Ilex Forest Maze is a guy who will give you TM02, Headbutt. Headbutt lets you shake the little trees that are everywhere in the game, sometimes revealing sleeping Pokemon. Heracross is up in the trees.

TM12 - Sweet Scent
After cutting the bush that is right before the shrine dedicated to the Forest's protector (Celebi, Which I have caught), you'll wind through the Forest path until you come to a connecting gate. Inside is a girl who will give you TM12, Sweet Scent. It will attract Pokemon to you outside of battle. Once you exit this place, you'll come to Route 34. Amongst the trainers is a Daycare Center.

Daycare Center
Just below Goldenrod (Kogane) City is a house with an old man and woman inside. Talk to the man and he will take one of your Pokemon to level up and talk to the woman and she will do the same. It will cost 100 dollars to take them out, and 100 dollars per level up. In Crystal when you meet the old man he will give you an Odd Egg. The Odd Egg will hatch into Pichu, Magby, Smoochum, Elekid, Tyrogue, Cleffa, or Igglybuff. When it hatches there is also a 50% chance it will be shiny. If it's not shiny, then it will have the worst stats possible. Also, all Pokemon hatched from the Odd Egg will have learned Dizzy Punch.

Breeding Instructions
To breed Pokemon you must give the old man a Male Pokemon and give the old woman a Female Pokemon (or vice-versa) that have the same little icon or sprite. Or they must be compatible at breeding (Ditto can breed with any Pokemon with a gender male or female). Check our Pokedex for breeding compatibility. Then exit the building and go walk around for a little while. Come back when you see the man standing outside with your two Pokemon. Talk to him and answer yes, he will give you an Egg. If you put in Pokemon of different numbers, for example Pidgey and Hoothoot, the resulting egg will be the same species as the female Pokemon and with an attack that the Male had. Just think of the strange combinations...

Special Pre-Evolution Pokemon
Put In a Male and Female Jigglypuff......and get Igglybuff when you hatch the egg!
Note: Jigglypuff can be found outside in the grassy areas of Mt. Moon but is very rare.
Put In a Female Clefairy and a Ditto........and get Cleffa when you hatch the egg!
Note: Clefairy can be found inside of Mt. Moon but is very rare.
Put in a Male and Female Pikachu.........and get Pichu when you hatch the egg!
Note: Pikachu can be found in the wild grass right above Viridian City.
Put in a Male and Female Magmar..........and get Magby when you hatch the egg!
Note: Magmar can be found inside the tower in Ecruteak (Enjyu) City where you fight your Rival.
Put in a Male and Female Electabuzz......and get Elekid when you hatch the egg!
Note: Electabuzz can be found in the wild grass outside the Power Plant.
Put in a Female Jynx and another Pokemon with the same sprite as Jynx. And get Smoochum when you hatch the egg!
Note: Jynx can be found in the Ice Path.

Goldenrod City Gym - Plain Badge (#3)
Goldenrod City is pretty big. The local Poke Mart is like the Celadon Department Store. There's plenty to do, but let's get down to business. It's the Gym Leader's badge you want, isn't it? All the trainers use Normal Pokemon in the Goldenrod City Gym. Right before Whitney there is a trainer who likes to use Jigglypuff, 3 to be exact. So you might want to stop at the PokeCenter to wake up any Pokemon before taking on Whitney. Whitney can be challenging. If you caught a Geodude or Onix earlier, now is the time it would come in handy.Whitney won't give you the Plain Badge at first because she will start crying. Talk to the trainer below her then talk to Whitney again. She'll stop crying and give you the Plain Badge. It will let your Pokemon use Strength outside of battle and it boosts your Pokemon's Speed. She'll also give you TM45, Attract.

Radio
In the radio station at Goldenrod, there is someone at the far end of the counter. She has a five question quiz for you. Answer yes, yes, no, yes, no. You'll get a Radio Card for your Poke Gear. Right to the left of the girl who gave you the quiz is someone who will check to see if your ID is the same as the Lucky Radio Station's. If it is you can win prizes, like a Masterball. In Crystal Buena is located on the second floor. If you talk to her you'll receive a blue card. Every night she'll announce a password. If you go see her and tell her the password you'll receive points. Redeem these points for prizes.

Coin Case / Free Bike
The Game Corner in Goldenrod (Kogane) City requires the coin case like in the previous versions. In Goldenrod there are two buildings that have an underground tunnel that connect to each other. There are a few trainers there, but, if you find a Poke Ball down there, it'll contain the coin case. Now you can take your case and go gambling. Also, there's a bike shop in Goldenrod, just talk to the guy and he'll give you a free bike.

Pokemon Salon
Also in the Underground Path is a Pokemon Salon. Depending on the day, you can groom your Pokemon which will make it happy.

TM 21 or TM 27
In the Goldenrod City Department Store a lady on the 5th floor will give you a TM on Sundays depending on how your Pokemon like you. If they like you she'll give you TM 27, Return. It'll do more damage the more your Pokemon like you. However, if they don't she'll give you TM 21, Frustration. It'll do more damage the more your Pokemon dislike you.

Department Store Roof
You can now access the Goldenrod City Department Store roof in Pokemon Crystal. You can find special bargains on certain days. For the bargains, you have to get Camper Todd's Phone Number (He's below Goldenrod City) and he'll call you when there is a sale.

TM 04 - Rollout
Before the National Park (Route 35), there is a path through the grass you can take to find TM 04, Rollout.

National Park
On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the National Park holds a Bug Catching Tournament. To enter you have to talk with one of the guys standing by the doors of either entrance (North of Goldenrod is the first you come to). You can only take one Pokemon with you to battle the wild Bug Pokemon, the rest will be held for you until the contest is over. The contest is free, and you'll get 20 Park Balls to capture the Pokemon. However, if you press Start at anytime, the round will end once you go back to playing. Sunkern, Caterpie, Metapod, Butterfree, Weedle, Kakuna, Beedrill, Venonat, Pinsir, and Scyther are the Pokemon that I've seen in there. What's weird is that you can find level 17 Caterpie and Weedle. Whenever you catch more than one Pokemon in this contest, you'll be asked whether you want to switch it with the first one you caught. If not, your Pokedex will still record that you caught that Pokemon, you just won't get to keep it. You only get to keep one Pokemon from the contest, so all others will mysteriously disappear. To win the tournament you need to capture a high level Pokemon like Scyther since he is worth a lot of points. The 1st place winner gets the Sun Stone.

Quick Claw
Talk to the girl on the bench inside of the National Park and she'll give you Quick Claw. Quick Claw will usually let the Pokemon carrying it, attack first in battle.

Route 26 - Sudowoodo the Wiggling Tree
After the third Gym there was a house right outside the gym. Inside, the girl in red will give you a SquirtBottle to sprinkle on the tree. Sudowoodo doesn't like water, so it'll wake up and fight you. Remember there's only one, so be ready to catch it. Next head directly to the right and talk to the fat guy that you come in contact with. He'll give you TM08 which is called Rock Smash. This move will allow you to break certain rocks later in the game so don't lose it.

Arthur of Thursday
On Thursdays in this area, right above where the fat guy is, Arthur will show up. He'll give you a Hard Stone, which will increase the strength of Rock attacks.

Deliver the Spearow - TM 50
After clearing out Sudowoodo this task will be simple. There's a guy wanting to deliver a Spearow with Mail attached to a guy on Route 31. The guy with the Spearow is in the Route Change gate right after Goldenrod City. After getting TM 50, you can go back to the guy in the gate, and he'll give you a PP Up.

Bill - Time Capsule
After Sudowoodo you will reach Ecruteak (Enjyu) City. You'll probably want to stop at the local Poke Center to heal your Pokemon. When you do you'll meet Bill. He'll tell you he just finished fixing his Time Capsule. The Time Capsule will let you transfer Pokemon from older games, (Red, Blue, and Yellow) and transfer them to Gold or Silver. He tells you that you can't have any new moves from Gold and Silver or Pokemon when trying to use the machine. Then he'll leave and go back to Goldenrod City where he'll give you an Eevee if you talk to him again. After this, you can take on the local gym leader, Morty. It would have been handy to have a Kadabra by now.

Morty & Rival in Crystal
To find Morty in Crystal, you have to beat your Rival first. He and Morty will be at the Burned Tower. After you do, Morty will return and you will meet Eusine, whom you will battle later on. Once you get the Clear Bell from the Radio Tower Director after beating Team Rocket out of Goldenrod City, Suicune will appear in the Tin Tower. First you have to defeat the Wise Trio and then you may catch Suicune. It will be at level 40 and will know Bubblebeam, Gust, Rain Dance and Leer, so it won't run away. After you capture Raikou, Entei and Suicune (You have to catch all 3) then and only then can you get the Rainbow Wing from the Wise Trio. Then you can fight Ho-Oh at level 60.

Ecruteak City Gym - Fog Badge (#4)
There is a ghost floor surface which continually has you falling through, but to get to the other side, you must walk directly forward in front of a gym trainer, then walk directly left/right, but before reaching the edge, walk directly up in front of another trainer. The Gym Leader uses all Ghost Pokemon so a Psychic like Kadabra or Drowzee will come in handy here.Morty will give you the Fog Badge for winning. All Pokemon up to level 50 will obey you now and you'll be able to use Surf outside of battle. He will also give you TM 30, Shadow Ball.

HM03 - Surf
Two more things to do here. Inside the town there are five Kimono Girls dancing on the stage. Each Kimono Girl has an Eevee evolution (two new ones, a Psychic one, and a Dark one). If you defeat all five and talk to the man with the hat, he will give you HM03, Surf.

Itemfinder
Inside one of the houses, this guy will give you an Itemfinder.

Burned Tower - Rival / Legendary Beasts
Burned Tower. Once you enter the Burned Tower your Rival will fight you. If you have a Kadabra, now is the time to use it. Once your Rival is defeated and leaves, it'll be time to explore the rest of the tower. If you taught TM08 to one of your Pokemon, now it is time to use it. (Remember TM08 is given to you by the fat man that was looking at Sudowoodo - the wiggling tree.)Fight the trainer and you can fall down the hole in the middle. Go up to the stone statues and they will awaken, then scatter. These are the Three Legendary Beasts, Raikou (electric type), Entei (fire type), and Suicune (water type). You may run into them later on in the game (in the wild), so be prepared. Next head west to Route 38.

TM 20 - Endure
Inside the Burned Tower you can find TM 20 by breaking the rock on the right side. Then you have fall in the hole in the upper right hand corner. Then move a rock with strength and TM 20, Endure, is yours.

Sick Miltank
Right in the corner of Route 38 and 39 is a Miltank farm. Unfortunately their prize Miltank will not produce milk. If you give it 7 Berries it'll get better. There is a plant that gives Berries near the beginning of Route 38. If you talk to the owners they'll give you TM13.

Pikachu Madness!
Not much else on Route 39, except a couple trainers with Pikachu. The Gym Leader is Missing. If you check out the local Gym your Rival will tell you that the gym is empty.

HM04 - Strength
Head to the house next to the Poke Center. Talk to the Sailor on the right and he'll give you HM04.

Good Rod
Right above the Poke Center is a house with a Fishing Guru inside. Talk to him and answer yes to his question and you'll get a Good Rod.

Monica of Monday
On Mondays look for Monica in Olivine City. Talk to her and she'll give you Sharp Beak. When attached to a Pokemon it'll raise the power of Flying Attacks.

Jasmine needs medicine
Next head to the Lighthouse that is southeast in the town. Scale to the top, battling trainers all the way, and you'll find Jasmine. She'll ask that you get some medicine for her sick Pokemon from a pharmacy in Cianwood. Well, not much else to do, so let's surf to Cianwood City.

Where is Cianwood?
Cianwood (Taban) City can be reached by surfing from Olivine (Asagi) City. You'll encounter a lot of Tentacool and Tentacruel on the way. Not to mention a few trainers.

Cianwood City Gym - Storm Badge (#5)
Heal your Pokemon at the local Poke Center then head off to fight the Gym Leader. To get passed the stones blocking your way, you must press the stones on the ends up using Strength. Then Press the middle stone to the left. Again, Kadabra comes in handy. Chuck will give you the Storm Badge for winning. Now Pokemon up to level 70 will obey you and you can use Fly outside of battle. He will also give you TM 01, Dynamicpunch. It will confuse the opponent if it hits.

Poke Seer,Suicune,Eusine
If you go all the way north on Cianwood in Crystal, you'll see the Poke Seer's house. Also, going further north you'll see none other than Suicune! It will run away before you can battle it at this point, but Mystical man Eusine will appear and you will have to battle him. Eusine has a Drowzee, an Electrode and a Haunter, but, he is fairly easy to defeat.

HM02 - Fly
After beating Chuck, talk to the lady outside the gym to get HM02.

#213 Shuckle
There's a guy that will give you a Shuckle on Cianwood if you only bring 5 Pokemon with you. You can also catch wild Shuckle by breaking the rocks on Cianwood. By breaking the rocks there's always a chance a wild Pokemon will fight you.

Photo Studio
There's a man in a house above the Gym that'll take a picture of one of your Pokemon and then print it out on your Game Boy Printer.

Medicine
Stop by a house to get the medicine Jasmine needs for her sick Pokemon before flying back to Olivine. After receiving the medicine from the guy in sunglasses on Cianwood, go back to Jasmine at the top of the tower, give her the medicine, and she will go back to her gym.

Olivine City Gym - Mineral Badge (#6)
Jasmine's two Magnemites shouldn't give you that much trouble, especially if you grabbed a Geodude earlier in the game. The new steel type Pokemon, Steelix, is five levels higher, but you should still be able to take it out. A Fire Pokemon can easily take out all 3 of her Pokemon. Once you beat Jasmine, the Mineral Badge is yours. It raises your Pokemon's Defense, and she also gives you TM 23, Iron Tail.

Sunny of Sunday
Next head back to Ecruteak (Enjyu) City, the one with the Ghost Gym leader. Before entering the city, Sunny will be walking amongst 3 Berry Plants on the right side of Route 37 on Sunday. Talk to Sunny and he will give you Magnet. This increases the power of Electric attacks. Then exit east from the city using the Route Gate and you'll come across Mt. Mortar on Route 42.

Battle Tower
On Route 41 (West of Olivine City) The Battle Tower is there! Here, you bring in three Pokemon at a selected level, like in Pokemon Stadium. At first you can select level 10, 20, 30 or 40. After you beat the Elite Four you can battle levels 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100. Just a warning, it is very hard to win though, but if you do win, you get five of a certain item like Protein or Calcium. You can't enter the competition if: You have more than one Pokemon of the same species. One or more of your Pokemon's levels tops the selected level mode. Two of your Pokemon have the same item attached.

Tyrogue
Deep inside Mt. Mortar is a trainer that will give you Tyrogue if you beat him. Make sure you only bring 5 Pokemon with you or he will not give it to you. You also need Waterfall to be able to get to him.

Dragon Scale
Deep inside Mt. Mortar there is a item ball containing Dragon Scale. You should be able to get it by following the way to get to Tyrogue. It's at the very top.

TM40 - Defense Curl
Also inside near where the Dragon Scale is, you'll find TM 40, Defense Curl... Not really worth your time if you ask me.

Apricorns
There are a group of three plants that give you Apricorns right outside the middle entrance of Mt. Mortar. You need a Pokemon with Cut with you to get to them. The one on the left gives you a Pink Apricorn, the middle a Green Apricorn, and the right a Yellow Apricorn. Now head East, and you'll come right to Mahogany Town.

TM 10 - Hidden Power
There's a winding path off to the left of the lake with a lot of bushes that require Cut to get passed. There's a hut at the very top and for your trouble the man inside will give you TM 10, Hidden Power.

Wesley of Wednesday
Also up near the house where you get TM 10 will be Wesley on Wednesday. Talk to him to get Blackbelt.

Red Gyarados
The Mahogany (Choju) Town Gym is being blocked by a Team Rocket member so you'll have to find something else to do first. Head north battling trainers and new Pokemon until you reach a lake with a level 30 Red Gyarados in it. Surf out to the middle and fight it. There's only one, so you better catch it!After capturing/defeating it, you'll get a Red Scale. You can trade this scale for an Exp.Share from Mr.Pokemon.

Lance
After catching the Red Gyarados you'll see Lance standing by a sign. Talk to him and he will tell you he needs help, Mahogany Town has a secret Rocket Hideout that is broadcasting strange radio signals making the Magikarp in the lake evolve into Gyarados. Answer yes and he'll fly off. Head back to Mahogany Town.

TM 36 - Sludge Bomb
On your way back you can go through a gate house with a Red roof. Watch out! There's Rockets inside. They'll steal your money, so hop over the ledges to get back. However, later when you get rid of Team Rocket, come back to get TM 36 from the guy inside.

Mahogany Town "Store"
If you head to the middle of the town where a guy is selling things, you'll find Lance inside. He'll show you the secret door to Team Rocket's Hideout. Make sure your Pokemon are strong, a lot of Team Rocket members will fight you in here.

Team Rocket Hideout - Level 1
Every time you pass one of the Statues, 2 Rocket Grunts will come and fight you. They say that there's a camera in the Statues, and the only way to turn them off is to hit the switch. Walking on the floor traps means you will have to fight Geodude, Koffing or Voltorb. The switch is on that lone computer which you can get to after defeating the Scientist in the center.

Team Rocket Hideout - Level 2
Lance will heal your Pokemon when you talk to him on the 2nd level. He'll go ahead of you. Beat the 2 rocket members and go down the stairs.

Team Rocket Hideout - Level 3
Here Lance will talk to you again. He says that to unlock the doors on this level you need to get 2 passwords from the Rocket members. The two members that have the passwords are on this level. The first one is the girl Rocket, facing the computer. Talk to her after you battle her and she'll give you her password. The other is the Rocket near the 2 Poke9balls. After battling him talk to him and he'll give you his password. Follow the stairs until you get to the locked door. Your Rival will come to talk to you but he won't battle. Unlock the door and fight the Rocket Executive. After he leaves, talk to the Murkrow and it'll give you the final password, "Hail Giovanni." Then head back to the 2nd Floor and unlock the 2nd locked door.

Deactivate the Radio Signal
After unlocking the door, 2 Rocket Executives will come and gang up on you. Luckily Lance comes and battles one of them, while you battle the other. After that is over, Lance tells you that the radio signal needs to be stopped. Since there is no switch, you must battle the Electrode and either catch them, or make them faint. After defeating the Electrode, Lance will thank you and give you HM06, Whirlpool. Whirlpool lets you get passed rough waters.

Mahogany Town Gym - Glacier Badge (#7)
Pryce uses Ice Pokemon. If you picked up a Magmar from earlier, he'd be useful right around now. If not, an electric attack will take care of Seel and Dewgong. After beating Pryce, you'll get the Glacier Badge. This badge will raise your Pokemon's Special and it'll let you use Whirlpool outside of battles. He'll also give you TM16, Icy Wind.

Team Rocket Has Taken Over Goldenrod City
Before heading on, you'll have to backtrack. Professor Elm calls you to tell you Goldenrod (Kogane) City's Radio broadcasts seemed to be talking a lot about Team Rocket. He wants you to head to Goldenrod to check things out.Head back to Goldenrod (Kogane) City for more Rocket fun.

Team Rocket - Radio Tower
The other floors of the Radio Tower that were not accessible before, now are. Unfortunately these floors are reeking of Rocket. The first part of this chore is easy enough. Just fight all the Rocket's and make it up to the top. You'll see a locked door on the third floor, but this will be opened later.Beat the Rocket Executive on the top floor who was impersonating as the Director. He'll give you a key that will unlock the blue door to the Underground Warehouse, which you can reach by going into the Underground Tunnel in Goldenrod City.

Battle with Rival
Hey look, your Rival was following you and now wants to fight. Sneasel is one of those new Dark type Pokemon (Psychic has no effect).

Evil Puzzle
Next you will have to press switches to open doors and remove walls. To get to the Female Rocket leader you must push the switches in this order: the Left switch (#3), then Middle (#2), then the Right one (#1).

Save The Director
You'll encounter more Rocket Grunts until you finally encounter the Director of the Radio Station. He'll give you a Card Key that'll unlock the 3rd Floor shutter that was locked before in the Radio Station.Go back to the Radio Station and unlock the door. Beat the rest of the Rockets including the male and female Rocket Executives.

Get the Rainbow Wing, Silver Wing, or Clear Bell
After defeating the Rocket Executives, the Director will come and thank you. He'll also give you a special item. (Silver version: Silver Wing, Gold Version: Rainbow Wing, Crystal Version: Clear Bell). The wings will let you get Ho-oh (Rainbow Wing - Gold) and Lugia (Silver Wing - Silver) and the Clear Bell will eventually let you get Ho-oh in Crystal.

More Free Gifts
Before exiting the Radio Tower, go around and talk with people. They will give you something for saving the Radio Tower.

Eevee
Don't forget to stop by Bill's house in Goldenrod (Kogane) City to get your own complimentary Eevee from Bill. Have a slot open for it though or you won't be able to get it. Next head back to Mahogany (Choju) Town and enter the Ice Path.

Icy Mazes
The Ice Path shouldn't be too hard to get through. You'll find some new Pokemon in here, a small mammoth like thing called Swinub. There's also a shy bird called Delibird in the Silver version.

HM07 - Waterfall
You can find the last HM, HM07 in the Ice Path. This HM lets you ride up waterfalls.

TM or HM, Be gone!
There is a guy in Blackthorn (Fusube) City that will erase TM's or HM's from your Pokemon. Just talk to him and he will ask which move you want deleted. This is very useful since the HM's in this game are used more regularly. So having all the required Pokemon at the same time with these moves and having your normal fighting Pokemon is hard to do. So eventually you'll give in and teach one of your good Pokemon an HM. But don't worry you can delete it later!(Krabby/Kingler can learn Cut, Surf, Strength, and Rock Smash, though)

Santos of Saturday
Hey it's Santos. Santos will give you Spell Tag after talking to him. Spell Tag will increase the power of Ghost attacks.

Blackthorn City Gym - Rising Badge (#8)
Note: If you can't get into this gym because of a guy blocking it, you have forgotten to beat something earlier in the game. Before battling Clair there will be a small puzzle where you have to push 3 Rocks into holes to make paths over the molten lava below. Not to mention trainers to fight. But eventually you'll make it to Clair. Her Dragon Pokemon can be taken out with Ice attacks. After defeating Clair, you won't get a badge. In Gold and Silver you must surf behind the gym and enter a cave called the Dragon's Den and get an item called the Dragon Fang. In Crystal you will still surf to the Dragon's Den.

Dragon's Den - Getting the Badge from Clair (Gold/Silver)
Inside you must surf around. You may encounter a Dratini every once and awhile. You'll have to get passed a whirlpool, so bring along your Pokemon that has HM06 equipped. Once you find the lone Poke9ball and pick it up, Clair will come along and give you the Rising Badge. Now all Pokemon will obey you and you'll be able to use Waterfall outside of battle. She'll also give you TM24, Dragonbreath. Once you exit the Dragon's Den, Professor Elm will tell you he's got something for you. So go back to New Bark (Wakaba) Town and talk to him.

Dragon's Den - Getting the Badge from Clair (Crystal)
After beating Clair, instead of going to find the Dragon Fang, you have to take the Master's Challenge. He asks you some questions (Not triva-questions, personal opinion questions). If you pass, then Clair will give you the badge. She doesn't give you the TM at first, after you leave the Master's temple she gives it to you. (The Dragon Fang is still there for you to get if you want it). After you come back, the Master will give you a level 15 Dratini.

Master Ball
When you get back in New Bark (Wakaba) Town after beating all 8 Gym Leaders in Johto, talk to Elm and he will give you the Master Ball! Now that you have this, and the Rainbow Wing (Gold) or Silver Wing (Silver) from the Radio Tower Director, you can go catch Ho-oh (Gold) or Lugia (Silver).

Ho-oh - Gold Version
Ho-oh on the rooftop.Ho-oh is really easy to find compared to Lugia. Go back to Ecruteak (Enjyu) City and go into the northern house. Go in all the stairs and you'll eventually come to a large tower. Go inside Tin Tower, and go to the top after the winding mazes and teleport pads and you'll find Ho-oh. You better save your game before fighting Ho-oh, because like Mewtwo, there is only one. Try getting Ho-oh down to as little HP as possible, and put it to sleep. Ultra Balls should do the trick.

Lugia - Silver Version
Swimming Lugia can be found in Whirl Islands, south of Olivine City. You'll need a Pokemon with Surf, one with Whirlpool, and one with Flash to get to Lugia. Go to Olivine (Asagi) City and surf south trying to stay as far to the right as you can. There is 4 entrances to the cave where Lugia is so if you follow the wall the first one you come to is the one you need to enter.Once inside go to the right and choose the top path when it comes to a fork. Now you'll make your way to a waterfall, go down it, then surf up and you should find Lugia swimming in the water.Lugia is also level 40 and will give you 1257 experience points if you beat him. But DON'T, what are you crazy or something!? Again, low HP, asleep, and ultra balls should do the trick. Lugia wants to fight!

Pokemon League
Now head back to New Bark (Wakaba) Town and get ready to advance to the Pokemon League. But first make sure you have a Pokemon with Surf and Waterfall. And heal all your Pokemon in Elm's Lab.Next it's time to surf east from New Bark (Wakaba) Town.

Map Card
After surfing to the right of Wakaba Town, talk to the fat guy when you reach dry land. He'll give you a new map card expansion that has the map of the original Pokemon World from Red, Blue, & Yellow (Kanto). Next you'll enter a cave that has a waterfall. Surf up it and then down the other side to get out of the cave.

TM 37 - Sandstorm
Once you exit the cave you'll find a house. Inside an old lady will give you TM 37, Sandstorm, for talking to her.

TM 22 - Solarbeam
On Route 27, you can Surf off the bridge to find this TM. Make sure you bring a Pokemon with Whirlpool along to get it though because there is a whirlpool blocking the path to get to it.

Route 26 and 27
Next you'll surf east some more and encounter more trainers when you reach land. There's new Pokemon to catch and trainers to fight. Before heading onwards, there is a house with a woman who will heal all your Pokemon for you.Head north and you'll eventually reach Victory Road.
Almost there...
Eventually you'll make it to the "other half" of Victory Road. This half is much more easier because there are no trainers and no puzzles. But there are a lot of Pokemon in there that will give you grief if your Pokemon are not leveled high enough. Graveler, Onix, Rhyhorn, Golbat, and Ursaring (Gold) or Dohphan (Silver) are what you will find in here.Strangely enough, when I was playing and leveling up my Pokemon before I battled the Elite Four, I ran into a shining silver Rhyhorn. It, like all Shiny Pokemon, has a constant DV of 10 for every stat (except for HP which has a DV of 0), making its total stats be somewhat higher than regular Pokemon. Whenever it goes into battle it sparkles like the Red Gyarados, and as you can see in its stats, it has 3 stars next to it's gender like the Red Gyarados.

TM 26 - Earthquake
Inside Victory Road you can find TM 26, Earthquake. Right near the exit, head to the left and fall down the hole you find to get to it.

Perfect Place to Level Up
The Pokemon in Victory Road are perfect for leveling up your Pokemon before the Elite Four. The Graveler give you experience points in the 600's, Onix in the 500's, Rhyhorn in the 600's, Golbat in the 700's, and Ursaring/Donphan in the 800's. The best place to do this is at the end of Victory Road where the exit is because you can go up to Indigo Plateau to heal your Pokemon. But before you reach the end your Rival will battle you one more time. Now when your Pokemon are about level 50 or so I think it is a good time to take on the Elite Four at the Indigo Plateau.

Indigo Plateau
Just like in Red, Blue, and Yellow, you will fight the Elite Four and Pokemon League Champion one after another with chances to heal your Pokemon in between. So I suggest before you go up the stairs to the first battle, buy plenty of healing items and Revives, because you might need them, and they definitely come in handy.

Will
Will is your first match. He is a Psychic Trainer and uses a new Pokemon called Xatu. It is a Psychic Bird that evolved from Natu. Other than that his old Pokemon are old favorites from three years back. Electric attacks should do the trick on the two Xatu and Slowbro. Use a Fire type for Jynx and Exeggutor. If you used a TM to teach a Typhlosion Thunderpunch, it will pay off for this fight. Also, the TM you got from Morty that contains Shadow Ball will help you out and a Dark Pokemon is also the best option since all of his Pokemon know Psychic.

Koga
It looks like Koga has moved from being a Gym Leader to an Elite Four member, leaving his Gym to Janine. He still uses Poison and Bug type Pokemon, although he does have some knew ones. If you have a Kadabra or a Pokemon with Psychic, it can easily wipe out Ariados, Venomoth, Muk and Crobat. If the Kadabra knows Fire Punch, use it on Forretress. Otherwise a Fire type is best bets against Forretress.

Bruno
Bruno is back and moved up from the second Elite Four member to the third. Once again, he's using his favorite Pokemon types: Fighting and Rock. Hitmontop is a Hitmonlee/Chan relative. It's the one where it spins on its head with three feet in the air, although he's easy to beat. A Psychic like Kadabra can do very well against most Pokemon. One Psychic can wipe out Hitmontop, Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan, also Machamp. For Onix, simply switch to a strong Water or Grass type that can use a strong attack of that type.

Karen
Karen is the new girl on the block and likes to use a variety of Pokemon, although she claims to be a Dark trainer. Umbreon is the Eevee evolution that you can get if you level up Eevee at night (Espeon, the Psychic one, by leveling up Eevee during the day.) Since it has high Defense stats, use a very powerful attack to knock out Umbreon. If you got the TM for Earthquake on Victory Road, a Ground Type Pokemon will benefit. A Fighting type move is best. Houndoom can also be taken out very easily by Fighting and Ground type moves.Vileplume can be taken out with a Fire, Ice, Psychic or Flying attack.Murkrow is a Dark/Flying Pokemon, so one Rock attack should knock it out quickly, if not Electric or Ice.Gengar can be knocked out by a Psychic, Ground, Ghost or Dark move.

Lance - League Master
Looks like Lance beat you to being the Pokemon League Master. Like in Red, Blue, and Yellow, Lance likes to use his Dragon type Pokemon. Lance uses basically the same lineup as in Red, Blue, and Yellow, except for the fact that he has 2 Dragonite in place of his 2 Dragonair. But that makes it even easier. Gyarados can be taken out with one Electric attack. Use Ice attacks to take down all three Dragonite. Rock attacks are your best bet for Aerodactyl and Charizard.

The End
Congratulations you have become a Pokemon League Champion. Professor Oak and an interviewer named Mary will come and congratulate you. Lance will save you from the interview, and will take you to the back room where he'll enter your Pokemon team into the Hall of Fame. Then you will watch the credits and see "The End."However, this is not the end. There is more to do.Now you can explore the world from Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow with Gold & Silver improvements...

Revisiting the Old World
So you've beaten the Elite Four and still are itching for more things to do? Here's what's next. Go talk to Professor Elm in New Bark Town and get the SS Anne Ticket. Then head to Olivine (Asagi) City and enter the SS Aqua through the passage that was previously blocked by a guy.

SS Aqua
Now that you're on the SS Aqua you can go around battling the trainers aboard. To get off you first have to find a man's granddaughter who is with the captain of the ship.To get there you must find a lazy Sailor who is in the room next to yours. Battle him so you can get past another Sailor blocking your way later in the ship.Find the girl, and you'll be sent back to the Grandpa's cabin. He'll give you Metal Coat for your troubles. Metal Coat increases the strength of Steel attacks.Note: If you decide to go back onto the SS Aqua for a second time you must go to your room and sleep in your bed if you ever want to get off the boat again. Go talk to a guy and you'll get a Rare Candy to listen to his ramblings.

Vermilion City Gym - Lt. Surge
Lt. Surge's Gym. You won't have to do Surge's stupid little trash can secret switch puzzle to get to him. You'll have to fight a couple guys though, but you should do it anyways to gain more experience. Lt. Surge's Pokemon shouldn't be too tough. Especially if you have a Ground Pokemon like Graveler or Sandslash. Dig or another Ground type move should render his Pokemon helpless. After you beat Surge, he'll give you his Thunder Badge which will increase your Pokemon's Speed.

TM 29 - Psychic
Once in Saffron, there is a man named Mr. Psychic. Talk to him and he'll give you the Psychic TM.

Focus Band
Right next to the Saffron City Gym is the Dojo. The only thing interesting in here is the Poke9ball containing Focus Band. The Focus Band may prevent fainting.

Saffron City Gym - Sabrina
Sabrina's GymThe Saffron City Gym still has that teleporter puzzle that you must get through. Keep going to the right or left and you'll eventually get to Sabrina after battling a couple Psychic Trainers along the way. Sabrina's Psychic Pokemon are not too difficult to beat. If you have a strong Electric Pokemon a couple strong Electric attacks to take out her Pokemon.Strangely enough, Sabrina has a female Mr. Mime in her lineup. Apparently the English translation to "Mr. Mime" wasn't a good idea because its Japanese name does not have to deal with a gender. After you beat Sabrina grab her Marsh Badge and teleport your way out of there. Next you'll have to pass through Cerulean City towards where the Power Plant was.

Missing Machine Part
Head East out of Cerulean City fighting trainers and wild Pokemon until you reach the end of Route 9 where you can surf to the Power Plant. Go inside the Power Plant and talk to all of the people in there. The large man is really upset...Once you try to exit, the Guard will say that some shady character in Cerulean has been spotted and asks for your help. Now go back to Cerulean City.

Missing Part
Once in Cerulean, go inside Misty's Gym. The Rocket member who stole the Machine Part will bump into you and exit as fast as he can. Go to the square patch of water and you'll find the missing Machine Part. Now go back to the Power Plant and give the guy the missing Machine Part. He'll thank you and give you TM 07, Zap Cannon. Now head back to Cerulean City again... or first you can do the following...

Magnet Train
Now that the Power Plant is giving power to the Magnet Train, you can get a ticket for the Train which will transfer you between the two worlds a lot faster than any other way. First, head back to Saffron City and talk with the Mimic Girl. She'll tell you she lost one of her Poke9 Dolls. Then head to Vermilion City to the house where you get the bike voucher in the previous versions. Talk to the man above the Doll inside. He'll give you the Poke9 Doll that you'll give to the Copycat Girl back in Saffron. Now go back to Saffron, and give her the doll. She'll give you a Pass to the Magnet Train that will let you ride on it anytime you want. The Train terminals are in Goldenrod (Kogane) City next to the Radio Tower, and in Saffron City next to the gyms.

Beat the Six Trainers
Misty's Gym is empty, so take the path North across Nugget Bridge towards where Bill's house was. You'll encounter 6 trainers who will challenge you to a fight, and promise a prize for winning. Once you get done with 6, there's a 7th... He said he wanted to fight you because you'd be tired... All he has is a Porygon anyway, so he's not tough. After beating them all, you'll get a Nugget as a prize from Cooltrainer Kevin! He'll challenge you to a battle after he gives you the Nugget.

Find Misty
Misty in love?Continue on toward where Bill was and you will find Misty romancing with someone. She'll run off back to her Gym after you see her.

Cerulean City Gym - Misty
Inside Misty's Gym. Misty is still using Water Pokemon of course. Her Starmie is the only Pokemon that makes a return, but this time it is really beefed up. Misty's Pokemon can be easily taken out with a few Electric attacks. The only problem though is Quagsire who is Wooper's evolution. These strange creatures are impervious to Electric attacks since they are part Ground, so a Grass attack should do the trick. After beating Misty she will give you her Cascade Badge and you should be on your way.Head to Lavender Town by going East from Saffron City.

Cleanse Tag
When you're going South from Cerulean to get to Lavender, stop by the house that is at the bottom of a bunch of ledges. Talk to the old lady inside and she'll give you the Cleanse Tag. It will help keep wild Pokemon from attacking you.

Pokemon Tower now a Radio Tower
It looks like all souls are rested now in the old Pokemon Tower so they converted it to a Radio Tower to stay with the times. First things first, talk to the man facing the wall with a black hat. He will thank you for turning the power back on at the Power Plant and give you a Expn Card that will allow you to tune your Radio to all radio stations in Kanto. The important station you will need later plays the Poke9Flute noise.

Name Rater
The Name Rater is still located in Lavender like he was in Red, Blue, and Yellow. Also the Poke9Mart has moved to next to the Pokemon Center for some reason... Oh well. Now the rest of the game you can do pretty much however you want. But for sake of organization I'll continue on to Celadon City.

Super Rod
But before you go, if you head South of Lavender for a little bit, you'll come to a Fishing Guru's house. He'll give you a Super Rod after you answer 'Yes' to his question. Also, if you go down a little further, there's a Poke9ball with a Nugget inside.

Celadon City Gym - Erika
Erika's Gym - Look neater? Erika is still using her Grass type Pokemon. Jumpluff looks like a Water type but it's still Grass. Erika is simple enough, Fire will disintegrate all of her Pokemon in a couple hits. After you beat Erika and earn her Rainbow Badge and TM 19, Giga Drain. Now you can head on to Fuchsia City by way of the Bike Path.

Fuchsia City Gym - Janine
Since Koga is off being a member in the Elite Four and all, his daughter, Janine, has taken over his position as Fuchsia City Gym leader. She uses Poison and Bug type Pokemon so a Psychic and maybe a Electric type for her Flying Pokemon. Crobat is that bat Pokemon that Koga used in his Elite Four battle. Ariados is an evolved Pokemon that resembles a grasshopper. After beating her you will get her Soul Badge and TM 06, Toxic. Next, time to head back to Vermilion City where an entrance to Diglett's Cave can be found.... behind a giant Snorlax that is.

Snorlax
This has got to be the biggest Snorlax ever seen, it takes up a whole 4 screen sprites! Now that you've got your Radio Upgrade from Lavender Town's Radio Tower go to your PokeGear and go to your Radio slot. Push up to tune it to the Poke9Flute station. Then exit the Radio and press A against Snorlax. You better catch this one, he can make a good Team Member.Attached to Snorlax is an item called Leftovers. Leftovers will increase your Pokemon's HP after each attack turn is over.

Enter and Exit
Now you can enter Diglett's Cave since Snorlax is not blocking the cave anymore. Head inside, fight some Diglett or Dugtrio, then exit the other side heading for Pewter City.

Nugget
Once outside, visit the fat guy in the little house south of the exit. He'll give you a Nugget for talking to him.

Pewter City Gym - Brock
Brock's GymBrock still uses Rock Pokemon but just to make it a little more interesting he has added a few Rock/Water combinations for you to struggle with. But don't worry, Hydro Pump can still take them out with no problem. If not, a good Grass attack should do nicely. And for the other Pokemon: Water attacks. Brock will give you his Boulder Badge after you defeat him which will make your Pokemon even stronger. Now head East towards Mt. Moon.

Rainbow or Silver Wing
Depending on which version you're playing, talk to this old guy in Pewter City before you leave. He'll give you the Silver Wing (in Gold and Crystal) which will allow you to catch Lugia. Or the Rainbow Wing (in Silver) which will allow you to catch Ho-oh.

Rival - Round 6
Hey, it's your Rival! Alright! This is the second to last battle with your Rival, and now his Pokemon are quite leveled up. A strong attack should take out Sneasel pretty quickly. Golbat can be defeated with a Psychic or Electric attack. Magneton - Ground, Rock attack. Gengar - Psychic attack. Alakazam - Try using some Electric attacks, any Dark moves you just so happen to have would be the best. 3rd Evo Starter - Depends on what type it is. Grass - use Fire, Water - use Electric/Grass,, Fire - use Water.

Moon Stone
On Monday nights, Mt. Moon will feature some dancing Clefairy. If you go up to them they will scatter. Go up to the rock they were at and you will find a Moon Stone.

Not Much Else
There's really nothing more to Mt. Moon. It's very short now, compared to what it was like in Red, Blue, and Yellow. Inside you can find the rare Clefairy. Find a male and female and you can breed them at the Breeding Center for a Pre-Evolution Pokemon.Jigglypuff are outside Mt. Moon on either side. Find a male and female and you can breed them too for a Pre-Evolution Pokemon. If you're done with that, head back to Pewter then go all the way South. You don't need to stop by Viridian City, or Pallet Town, just go to Cinnabar Island, or what used to be Cinnabar Island....

Gary
Once you surf to Cinnabar, talk to the only person there. It turns out to be Blue (a.k.a. Gary), and after he tells you a long and boring story, he'll fly away.. Don't worry, you'll get to see Blue later.

Cinnabar Island Gym - Not There
The volcano on Cinnabar Island has erupted destroying the Gym. Blaine has relocated the Gym to Seafoam Island. Surf there to fight him.

Seafoam Island Gym - Blaine
Not much here to do. Doesn't even fit the whole screen. Blaine still uses Fire Pokemon but only uses 3 this time around. Magcargo is an evolved Fire Snail thing. Real weird. Not much strategy here, Earthquake, Hydro Pump, or Surf can pretty much handle Blaine's Pokemon. After beating Blaine and grabbing his Volcano Badge, head to Viridian City to take on Blue.

TM 42 - Dream Eater
Talk to this guy in Viridian City to get TM 42, Dream Eater.

Trainer House
There's an excellent place in Viridian City where you can level up your Pokemon and get some cash. Inside the building next to the Poke9Mart, go downstairs and talk to the lady. Answer yes and you'll fight a trainer with Meganium, Typhlosion and Feraligatr. You can only fight once a day though.Interestingly enough, after you get the Mystery Gift option to work and use it with a friend, the trainer will then turn into your Friend and have all their Pokemon to battle.

Viridian City Gym - Blue
Blue amongst his giant Legos.Looks like Gary...err... Blue has taken over Giovanni's Gym Leader position after he swore he'd give up Team Rocket. Blue uses Pokemon similar from the old versions, with references to the show as well.Blue's Pokemon may give you more challenge than previous Gym Leaders since he uses different types.Pidgeot - Electric move.Alakazam - Electric move.Rhydon - Water move.Gyarados - Electric move.Exeggutor - Fire move.Arcanine - Water move. That shouldn't be all difficult. After getting the Earth Badge from Blue, head back to Pallet Town.

Professor Oak
After beating all 8 Kanto Gym Leaders, visit Professor Oak and he'll open up the path to Silver Cave (or Mt. Silver, both are named for the same thing). Go to Viridian and take the Route toward Victory Road. Now it will let you in where the passages were being blocked by two guys. From here you can continue out the door to Silver Mountain or go to Indigo Plateau to fight someone that will be a lot easier than the final battle in Silver Cave...

Indigo Plateau - Rival - Final Battle
Anytime after fighting your Rival at Mount Moon you can fight him again at Indigo Plateau right before you go up the stairs to the Elite Four. After beating your Rival you can go back to that door to the Silver Cave area to fight some pretty tough Pokemon.Once you defeat your Rival at Mount Moon, you can fight him again on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Indigo Plateau. His Pokemon's levels rise, but stop once his Starter Pokemon's level reaches 50. Then you can go to Mt. Silver.

Route 28 - Strong Pokemon
Once you start walking through the grassy areas after the Victory Road door exit, you'll start to encounter some very high level Pokemon. A couple new ones I encountered were Sneasel at night and Rapidash. There's a Pokemon Center out here in the middle of nowhere, but luckily for you it will allow you to fly there later when you leave.

TM 47 - Steel Wing
To the right of the PokeCenter on Route 28 there are two cut-able bushes. After them is a house. Talk to the lady inside and she'll give you TM 47, Steel Wing, for talking to her.

Red
There's different ways you can go throughout Silver Cave. But the only way I could go without a Pokemon with Waterfall was directly to Ash. Ash is really tough, so I suggest your Pokemon be at least in the high 60's if you wish to have even a slight chance. Ash is without a doubt the strongest Trainer in the game. All his Pokemon are in peak fighting form. Possessing all 16 Johto & Kanto Badges is no guarantee of victory, however. Before you enter this battle make sure you have one or more Pokemon at L70 or higher. You'll find it MUCH easier if you have at least three different types at this level before you attempt this battle. Ash's team is strong and extremely well balanced. Defeating him with a single Pokemon will be difficult. If you find yourself with only one or two Pokemon at L70 or higher you can always try to catch a Ho-oh or Lugia. Another good chance would be to catch the Legendary Dogs, Raikou, Entei and Suicune, and raising them to a high enough level. You'll find them extremely helpful. Once you defeat Ash the game will roll the credits and Ash will be gone then once the game resets you can battle him again. To battle him again you must defeat the Elite Four. Otherwise Ash will be gone.

Recommendations

Pikachu (M) - L81 - Electric

Pikachu is the highest leveled Pokemon you'll have to face in the game. The good news is that it's quite weak. Try a powerful Pokemon with a strong Physical attack before Pikachu uses Charm. If it does it may take up to three turns to take out this Pokemon with Physical attacks. Another option is Fire Blast during Sunny Day or Hydro Pump during Rain Dance. Just one can take this one out. If all fails, bring in a Grass-type.

Espeon (M) - L73 - Psychic

Espeon is a strong opponent. However, it's another example of a low defended Pokemon, like Pikachu. Use Lugia's Aeroblast against it to do a lot of damage quickly. Murkrow works best 'cause all Espeon can do against it is Swift since Psychic and Mud-Slap is useless against Murkrow. Houndoom and Tyranitar are vulnerable to Mud-Slap so they don't work as well. Lugia or Murkrow are by far your best bets.

Snorlax (M) - L75 - Normal

Snorlax is the most annoying Pokemon in Red's lineup. It can Rest and while it is it uses Snore. If it was Paralyzed by a Body Slam it could prove fatal for your Pokemon. Since Snorlax's first move is usually Amnesia, Special attacks are useless. Try strong attacks of a Fighting Pokemon or Lugia's Aeroblast. However, you can try a Gengar with Hypnosis and Nightmare. A good secret is to Confuse it while it's asleep and switch out. It's bad dreams will hurt it and it'll hurt itself trying to Snore the new Pokemon. If you hit at the same time, within three turns Snorlax will go down.

Venusaur (M) - L77 - Grass/Poison

Venusaur is quite easy. Try the bait and switch by bringing out a Pokemon that is neither good nor bad against it. Then switch to Typhlosion, Ho-Oh or another strong Fire type. Venusaur will have used Sunny Day so it wouldn't have to charge Solarbeam. Instead it will end up fried by your Fire Pokemon using a strong Fire attack, powered up by 1.5x damage! Ho-Oh works best.

Charizard (M) - L77 - Fire/Flying

Charizard is strong. But one of these Pokemon will do good. With the exception of Feraligatr, these Pokemon are resistant to Wing Attack and Flamethrower. Rock attacks are best, they do 4x damage. And a Fire attack on a Rock/Water type will only do .75x damage, or 3/4 caused by STAB. Anyway, he shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Blastoise (M) - L77 - Water

Blastoise is quite strong. It uses Rain Dance to power up Whirlpool and Surf. Grass Types are NOT recommended as Blastoise has Blizzard. If it uses Whirlpool it can prove deadly to your Plant. Still, one will do in a pinch. Blastoise has a quite high Spc Def so you might need to use two or three strong Grass or Electric attacks to defeat this shellfish. Best attacks are Thunder and Solarbeam rather than less stronger attacks such as Thunderbolt and Razor Leaf. A Raikou with Thunder works best. Once again, a Weather Error like with Venusaur. It will use Rain Dance, but then it will end up getting fried by a Thunder because it's 100% accurate!

Legendary Beasts
243 - Raikou - Electric, 244 - Entei - Fire, 245 - Suicune - Water. These three Legendary Pokemon have no specific location of where you can find them because they are always on the move throughout the tall grasses of the Johto map. Once you run into one of them you can always keep tabs on where they are by going to your Pokedex and then checking their location (the first choice at the bottom of their Pokedex entry). But first, if you haven't already waken them up you will have to go to Ecruteak City. Go in the Burned Tower, break the rock in the way and fall down the little hole. Walk up the stairs and they will awaken and scatter. Another thing about these Pokemon. They will never attack you, they'll run away the first turn so you'll have a tough time catching them. But don't worry, if you damage them they'll stay damaged until you encounter them again. So the next time I encounter Entei, I'll fight Entei with the same HP it had when it ran away from me. If you knock them out however, they are gone for good.

Lugia - Silver Version
Go to Olivine (Asagi) City and surf south trying to stay as far to the right as you can. There are 4 entrances to the Whirl Caves where Lugia is so if you follow the wall the first one you come to is the one you need to enter.Once inside go to the right and choose the top path when it comes to a fork. Now you'll make your way to a waterfall, go down it, then surf up and you should find Lugia swimming in the water.Lugia is also level 40 and will give you 1257 experience points if you beat him. But DON'T, what are you crazy or something!? Again, using the Master Ball at this time isn't wise. If you wanted to know, Lugia learns Hydro Pump at level 44.

Lugia - Gold Version
Yes, Lugia can be obtained in the Gold Version, you just won't be able to get it as soon as you got Ho-oh. In Pewter City there is a man who will give you a Silver Wing. Take this Silver Wing and head to the same place as Lugia is in Silver and you will fight a level 70 Lugia.

Ho-oh - Gold Version
Go back to Ecruteak (Enjyu) City and go into the northern house. Go in all the stairs and you'll eventually come to a tower. Go inside, work your way through the maze inside, and once you make it to the roof you'll find Ho-oh.You better save your game before fighting Ho-oh, because like Mewtwo, there is only one. Ho-oh is only level 40 so using the Master Ball isn't a good idea.

Ho-oh - Silver Version
Yes, Ho-oh can be obtained in the Silver Version, you just won't be able to get it as soon as you got Lugia. In Pewter City there is a man who will give you a Rainbow Wing. Take this Rainbow Wing and head to the same place as Ho-oh is in Gold and you will fight a level 70 Ho-oh.

Lapras
Lapras is another fun Pokemon to find. On the lower most level of Union Cave you should be able to find Lapras on Fridays.

Shiny Pokemon
You remember the Gold...err... Red Gyarados in the lake north of Mahogany Town, right? Well that's not the only Pokemon that is colored differently. Throughout the game, through all wild grass, there is always a very very very slight chance you'll run into a shiny Pokemon. They have above average stats because they have DVs of 10 for all stats (except for HP which has a DV of 0) than the normal "regular" colored ones. To make sure you have a special colored Pokemon look at its stats and if it has 3 pluses by it's gender, then that means it's a shiny one. Also, when used in battle it will sparkle and shine when you bring it out. Every Pokemon has a special color, even the ones that you can only catch once like Lugia or Ho-oh (though it is VERY rare for them to be shiny when you run into them), so always be on the lookout where ever you go since one could pop up at any moment.

"Free Pokemon"
After defeating the first Gym Leader go into Violet's PokeCenter. Talk to the Scientist at the counter and he will give you Togepi.
Tyrogue - (#236) Tyrogue is pretty well hidden in Mt. Mortar which is between Ecruteak City. Hopefully you will be able to find him. And remember, you must only bring 5 Pokemon with you or you won't be able to take Tyrogue with you. You will need Pokemon with Flash, Surf, Waterfall, and Strength to reach Tyrogue. Tyrogue can evolve into Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, or Hitmontop depending on his stats. If Tyrogue's Attack is higher than its Defense it will evolve into Hitmonlee. Defense higher than Attack - Hitmonchan. If its Attack and Defensee are the same it will evolve into Hitmontop.
Surf passed the first mountain entrance east of Ecruteak City and enter this middle one.Surf into the water right at the entrance and head north up a waterfall.Head through the door and you'll want to keep to the right on the other side. You'll need to surf across water and navigate through a semi-tricky maze to get near the top.
You'll find this ladder leading down at the top left corner of the maze. This portion of the maze is pretty simple, when you enter head to the right and up and around until you get to this ladder.Defeat this Karate guy and he'll give you Tyrogue.

Eevee - Espeon/Umbreon
Stop by this house in Goldenrod (Kogane) City to get your own complimentary Eevee. If Bill's not home that means you haven't met him yet. Bill is located in the next city's Poke9Mart. Have a slot open for it though or you won't be able to get it. To get Eevee to evolve into the two new evolutions, Espeon (Psychic) or Umbreon (Dark), Eevee must reach its "Happiness Quota". Not only that, but to get Espeon, Eevee must reach that quota during the day. And just the opposite for Umbreon, Eevee must reach the quota at night. Talk to Bill to get Eevee
Shuckle (#213) On Cianwood (Taban) City talk to one of the guys when you only have 5 Pokemon in your lineup and he will give you Shuckle.

Trade Pokemon
The following Pokemon you can get by trade, either from a person in the game, or trading with another Game Boy.

Aerodactyl
Route 14. Here's a trade you can find on Route 14 which is East of Vermilion City. This girl is looking to trade her Aerodactyl for a Chansey. Chansey can be found in the same grassy area where the girl is standing but good luck running into one because they are very Scarce.

Trade for Chansey
Here's another trade, though I don't think it's as good as the Aerodactyl one. Go to Blackthorn (Fusube) City and enter the house with the girl. She will trade you a Rhydon for a Dragonair. You can catch wild Dragonair with the Super Rod in a small little pond south of Blackthorn (Fusube) City. And with all trades the Pokemon they trade you will be the same level as the Pokemon you trade them.

Voltorb
Go to Olivine (Asagi) City and go a little west of the gym, you'll see two houses. Go to the one on the left and talk to the guy. If you give him a Krabby, he'll trade you a Voltorb.

Slowking (#199)
Equip Slowpoke with Kings Rock and then trade it to another Game Boy. It will evolve into Slowking. The King's Rock is found in the Slowpoke Well outside Azalea (Hiwanda) Town. Bring a Pokemon with Surf and Strength to get to the guy who will give the Kings Rock.

Politoed (#186)
Equip Poliwhirl with the Kings Rock and then trade it to another Game Boy. It will evolve into Politoed. Since there's only one Kings Rock in G/S you'll have to find them attached to some wild or traded Pokemon like Poliwag.

Steelix (#208)
Equip Onix with the Metal Coat and then trade it to another Game Boy. It will evolve into Steelix. Metal Coat is given to you by the Ship Captain of the SS Aqua after returning the grand daughter to her grand father.

Scizor (#212)
Equip Scyther with the Metal Coat and then trade it to another Game Boy. It will evolve into Scizor. Since there's only one Metal Coat you'll have to find them attached to wild or traded Pokemon like Magnemite.

Porygon 2 (#233)
Equip Porygon with the Up-grade item and trade it to another Game Boy. It will evolve into Porygon2. You can get the Upgrade item from the guy blocking the door inside of Silph Co.

Kingdra (#230)
Equip Seadra with the Dragon's Scale and trade it to another Game Boy. It will evolve into Kingdra. When sending Dratini through the Time Machine they will have Dragon's Scale attached to them. Or you can find one in Mt. Mortar.
