There are many types of alternative energy. This page is about...
Wind turbines are a clean source of electricity. These futuristic objects do not release Carbon dioxide or other ozone-depleting gasses. They require minimal water and the land can still be used for other operations such as farming or ranching.

Wind developers know where to place wind ranches by studying wind data. They collect this data from meteorological towers.
It is hard to envision the size of these utility-scale turbines below , but the rotor diameter is 47m (or ~160 feet).
Where does your state rank in potential for wind development? How does it work? Can you buy "Green Power" from your electric company?

Texas has lead the way with "Green Energy" because of its energy de-regulation. This means that any producer can contribute to the energy "grid." Producers can closely estimate how much electricity they will be able to provide based on historical wind data and the type of turbines being used. Electric companies then buy the electricity from the producers. These tend to be long-term contracts and sometimes electric companies even purchase the entire wind farm.
