Polluted Runoff destroys...
The two primary kinds of water pollution...
1. Point Source Pollution -

This is the kind we can trace to a specific point. Some point sources include factories and wastewater treatment plants.

Federal, State, and Local governments monitor this kind of pollution and take enforcement action when necessary.
2. Non-Point Source Pollution -

Unlike pollution from industrial and treament plants, NPS comes from many diffuse sources. It is caused by rainfall or snowmelt moving over and through the ground. As the runoff moves, it picks up and carries away natural and human-mad pollutants, finally depositing them into rivers.

These pollutants include: excess fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides from agricultural lands and residential areas; oil, grease, and toxic chemicals from urban runoff and energy productionl sediment from improperly managed construction sites, crop and forest lands, and eroding streambanks; salt from irrigation practices and acid drainage from abandoned mines; and bacteria and nutrients from livestock, petwastes, and faulty septic systems.
