This is a photo from the 1985 Manawatu Speleo Group expedition to Nettlebed cave.
This part of the cave is prone to flooding.
Nettlebed sits at the head of the Pearce River, in the Ordovician marble of Mt Arthur,
which makes up part of the Southern Alps.
This expedition was in May - winter - and it was cold!
The Midas Chambers lie directly below the entrance series,
and are so named for the millions of pebbles, sorted by size,
in its various chambers, like Midas's Money.
