It’s 1738 in a forest in Ireland, when Brenna Skylar, a Dark Elf of the Unseleighe Sidhe, is at the end of her rite of passage, musing about her future as a soul seer and enjoying the night air when a scream coming from a clearing breaks into her thoughts. Spreading her wings, Brenna flies through the forest and comes upon the scene of a man and woman arguing over the fate of a young man who appears to be dying.
As she continues to listen Brenna learns that the woman named Natalie had attacked Phillip, the young man lying on the ground, and is trying to get The older man Rafael to "transform him". While hiding behind a large tree, Brenna uses her talent as a soul seer to find out more about the trio. After concluding that Natalie is the corrupt one of the threesome and that Phillip is from an ancient sidhe line, Brenna watches as Natalie forces Rafael to transform Phillip as the only chance he has to save him. Sadness and fury envelope Rafael as he bites down on the side of Phillips neck, revealing to Brenna their true nature...they’re vampires! After the transformation takes place, a fight then ensues between Natalie and Rafael. Knowing she had to know more about Phillip, Brenna comes out of hiding to take flight and whisk Phillip away to Rafael’s despair.
Despite a frightening first meeting inside an abandoned cottage just outside the Unseleighe Sidhe’s capital city, Brenna and Phillip form and intense bond that complicates her future amongst her people. Before a decision is made Master Water, Master Fire, and Master Earth (a.k.a. Elementals), make a dramatic entrance with a opportunity of a lifetime...to be Mistress Air. Phillip sensing her indecision thanks her for rescuing him and allows the Elementals to take him back to the mortal realm. Of course, this isn’t the last time they see of each other, for 200 years Phillip and Brenna suffered through an on again/off again relationship before calling it quits.
After nearly seven decades of separation Brenna is unable to forget him or the bond they share, but that is not what has her seeking Phillip out. A vampire has been brutally attacking women of the Unseleighe realm and she needs Phillip’s help in capturing the culprit. When Brenna does find Phillip she realizes things have changed and she wonders if seeking him out was a good idea.
In a compelling story of love, intrigue, cultural differences, and personal choice, Aubrey Ross encourages the reader to explore the weight of ambition and true love’s endurance. Throw in toe-curling sex, how can you not want to read it.
