Four weeks into her stay, anthropologist Fatima Smith realizes that her and her employer, Lorn De La Rue, have spent more time in the bedroom than in the lab. Despite her uneasiness about that fact, Fatima is having the time of her life, there's just one thing standing in their way of true happiness, Lorn's secret. If a particular succubus and an obsessed professor have anything to say about it, it could possibly be the thing that severs their newly formed bond and his chance at
immortality.

Lorn's plans to show Fatima a good time in Paris comes to an abrupt halt when during a moment of unbridled passion his true nature is revealed. Regardless of the less than ideal circumstance, Lorn explains to a very frightened and confused Fatima that he is a gargoyle, a Protector, and that she is his emotionally and biologically compatible mate called a Fledgling. Before all things gargoyle could be fully uncovered, Lorn receives a call from one of his brethren that supernatural forces are assembling to wreck havoc on mankind. With a vague description of the impending disaster and strict instructions to wait for his servant to retrieve her and take her to safety, Lorn changes into his gargoyle form and flies away. On the heels of Lorn's departure Fatima receives a call from her co-worker and lustful admirer, Professor Gordy Singleton, with an urgent request to meet him downstairs.

Jealousy and the malevolent persuasion of a scorned succubus, convinces Gordy that he is protecting Fatima from Lorn, and with his dramatically improved appearance Gordy hopes to seduce her. Whisking Fatima off to a seaside city named Avalon, Gordy briefs Fatima on what he has learned from the succubus, while a visit from the succubus, herself, provides Fatima with information about the Protectors' unfavorable past making her doubt Lorn's intentions even more. In the meantime, Lorn recruits the help of the Protectors and their allies to help him search for Fatima with heartbreak and vengeance warring inside him.

The second installment of the Gargoyle series is a credit to Nia Foxx's vivid imagination, wicked eroticism, and captivating gift for storytelling. I found myself riveted to each page and regretting its end. Admitting having read it more than once, I eagerly anticipate the next installment
