Books

As I'm hoping so far you have figured out that I really like to read. I have read many books in the past little bit. Here is a list of books and a short summery for each book that I recommend you take the time to check out at you local library or purchase at some bookstore.

The Book: Farewell to Manzanar
The Authors: Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston & James D. Houston
Copywrite: 1973 Non Fiction
Setting: During the entire spance of WWII
The Story: Jeanne Wakatsuki lives on the coast of Florida with the rest of her Japanese family. Her father is a fisherman and her mother stays at home with Jeanne and her 12 brothers and sisters. Jeanne's father is accused of transporting things to the Japanese on his fishing boat. He is sent out to an internment camp till his trail to prove if he is guilty of treason toward the United States. Jeanne and her mother and brothers move out of there large home to the island off of the coast in which is populated by Japanese. The local Authorities force the island to evacuate about a month after the Wakatsukis' moved there. They are forced into and interment camp in southern California where they are assigned a barrack. This story tells of Jeanne's experience in the camp of Manzanar, it also tells how her feelings changed as she grew older and experienced different racial persecutions and how her family was slowly forced to separate.

My opinion: This book is awesome it is an accurate first hand account of the life that thousands of Japanese had to lead at this time in our history. The Japanese were considered a threat at this time of the century but this act against the Japanese is a highly devastating injustice.

The Book: The Omen
The Author: David Seltzer
Copywrite: 1976
Fiction
Setting: In the 1970's in and around London, England

The Story: There is a secret behind the birth of Katherine and Thorn's son Damien. Only Thorn and a priest as far as thorn knows have heard of the secret. Katherine had lost her child when he was born and at the same time the mother of Damien died, leaving him orphaned. The priest at the Catholic hospital offered Thorn the child. Thorn took the child and the priest agreed that the exchange was entirely kept a secret, even from Katherine who did not know that her biological son was dead, due to the fact that she passed out right after giving birth. Damien lived happily for four years with Katherine and Thorn. But everything began to change when strange things began to occur with certain things and people connected to Damien. Things like his favorite nanny whom he loved, hung herself off of the family home during Damien's birthday party. Also Damien freaks out when he is forced to go to church for a wedding, in which Thorn and Katherine end up taking him back home because of the scene he was causing. About a month later Thorn was warned by a priest who knew about the secret surrounding Damien's birth and Thorns real child's death. The priest told him that Damien was born to a jackal mother and Thorn's real biological son was murdered. Also that Damien was evil and the jackal was impregnated for Damien to be evil and that he needed to see a man who was one of the descendents of the first persons to fight against and terminate this evil 1000 years ago. Damien was literally the son of the Devil and he would kill everything that meant anything to Thorn and then once he had taken all he could from Thorn he would then turn on Thorn. Thorn does some investigating and goes back to the priest who first gave him Damien and is told by him to go to a cemetery where he will find out who is really Damien's mother. At the cemetery Thorn finds the grave of the mother and he finds his own son's grave in which he digs up to find the child's skull shattered. He also digs up the mother of Damien and finds it to be as the priest had said, a jackal. Thorn travels to the original devils son fighter and is told that he must kill Damien with seven knives which the old man gives him and then when that is done will the evil be rid of the world.

My opinion: I really liked this book. It's an on the edge of your seat suspense. It has many twists ad turns in the story that keep you wondering what will happen to the characters next.

The Book: The Grizzly
The Authors: Annabel and Edgar Johnson
Copywrite: 1964
Fiction
Setting: In a clearing along side a fishing stream

The Story: David's parents are divorced and he lives with his mother, but this weekend his father is visiting from Africa and gets to have a weekend with him. The only problem is that all David could remember of his father Mark is that he was always scared of him and scared to fail at something in front of him. Mark takes David to a secluded fishing spot in the woods alone where David sees two bear cubs and some ground that looks like someone had been digging while he snuck off by himself. David thinks that another person is around and was digging for bait to fish with. He feels satisfied because Mark was so dead certain that they were alone, now David could prove him wrong. Mark got all nervous when David told him about the cubs and started asking what they looked like. He told David not to stray off alone. But David did anyways and he ended up coming face to face with a giant grizzly mother who chased him through the open field where Mark was and into the trees. David climbs the tree and Mark shoots at the bear which made the grizzly turn on Mark. Mark ran under the truck but the bear clawed his leg and damaged the wiring in the truck. The bear ate the food and destroyed most of the supplies. While Mark was busy working on the truck to fix it David decided to try his luck at fishing which he had failed and now he was determined to prove to Mark that he was just as tough as he was. David ends up catching a fish and being pulled down the stream into the deep water which was above his head. David, being determined not to loose the fish so that he could possibly impress Mark with being the only one who caught a fish. The whole time this was happening Mark was watching David and later tells David something that made a bond between them, a new understanding of why they are who they are and why they do as they do.

My Opinion: Great book. It shows the change between a father and a son. It also tells people that what had once been and had fallen apart can be rebuilt again. It has a great meaning and I highly recommend it.
