

Romantic Era…a brief overview (text pp. 565-576)
-era lasted from 1798 to 1832
-literature characterized for its LOVE FFOR NATURE…if u see a nature freak poem on the exam, its probably a romantic one
-literature impacted heavily by effects of the industrial revolution…harsh working and living environments dominated England
-strong belief in democracy, mystery/suppernatural, spontaneity, a concern for common people and LOVE OF NATURE
-time period also included the French Reevolution, and NAPOLEON (and his wars)
-basically, the poems of this era differred from others in that they were:
a) less focused on the church
b) more focused on PEOPLE (ordinary ones)
c) lyrical
d) about nature
e) less structured
f) more passionate and spontaneous
