My favorite picture book is Ruby the Copycat by Peggy Rathmann. The story is about Ruby, a new student who becomes entranced with her classmate Angela. Throughout the week, Ruby copies everything Angela does, says and wears to school. This is my favorite picture book because the illustrations are stylized in a way that clearly deliver character emotions. The delicate details in the pictures make the settings and characters come to life. While the characters outfits and settings constantly change, Rathmann is able to consistently illustrate recognizable traits in each character. The pencil and ink drawings make the story fun and expressive. I love the idea of this book because it teachers children to be yourself and thrive as an individual. |
