Favorite Fiction Book
My favorite fiction book of all time is The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I first read this book in middle school, when social groups and cliques started to develop. At the time, the concept of belonging to two very different social groups was easy to relate to. The story is about three brothers struggle to stay together as a family after their parents' tragic death in a car accident.  Together, they search for an identity in a adolescent society that presents them with differing values. Hinton is able to illustrate each characters distinct personality through the sequence of events that occur throughout the story. I read this book twice, and I'm still able to feel every sincere emotion that the author delivers. The book encompasses more than just social status. It talks about family conflicts, self discovery, loss and the value of friendship. What is most memorable about this book is the poem that starts and ends the story, "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost. The poem lends a touching and overall deeper meaning to the book.
