All About Me
Hi all! My name is Elissa and I'm from Long Island, New York. I live about 45 minutes away from Manhattan. I am currently a junior here at Towson and I am finishing up my first semester of the elementary education program. My passion for teaching began early on. I come from a long line of educators.  My mother teaches home and career skills, my aunt is an ESL teacher and my great aunt was an elementary school teacher. Watching my mom teach encouraged me to pursue a career in teaching. I love working with children and I derive satisfaction in seeing children learn when I teach a new skill. I truly believe that good teachers are the most influential people in our lives.

In my spare time, I love to shop, hang out with my friends, watch movies, go to concerts, vacation with my family, play tennis, read and go on the computer. I have a sweet tooth and I can bake 'til I'm blue! I have one older brother, who is in graduate school pursuing a degree in graphic design.

During my summers, I work as a camp counselor. I have been going to summer camp since I was two years old. Day camp has always been a wonderful experience for me and I try my best to make it just as exciting for the children in my groups. This past summer, I was fortunate enough to work as a one-on-one teacher's aide in a special education program at my mother's middle school. I worked with a young girl who had a learning disability and physical handicap. I found this experience to be most rewarding. I love devoting my time to things that are self-fulling.

Here at Towson, I am a member of Kappa Delta sorority. Our sorority participates in five philanthropy events. Our biggest event is a 5K walk/run for Prevent Child Abuse America. We are also affiliated with the Girl Scouts of America, Orthapedic Research, the Children's Hospital of Richmond, Virginia and the Dove campaign for real beauty. Aside from education, I place a high value on volunteerism and charity. I think we all have the power to make a difference in the world.

I have created this webpage for my Children's Literature class.  Inside, you will find information on some of my favorite children's books and authors. My hope is that this page will serve as a valuable resource for myself and others who visit the site.  Take a look around and enjoy!
