Lismore High School operates five days per week. Students are expected to be at School by 8.50 am and not to leave before 3.25 pm. There is a roll call period each day starting at 8.55 am and lasting till 9.10. am.
Lismore High School operates on 6 * 50 minute periods per day on Monday, Tuesday , Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday the periods may be a little shorter to accommodate a brief student assembly. On these days there is a short 20 minute recess at about 10.55 am and 40 minutes for lunch lasting from about 1.00 pm to 1. 40 pm.
On Wednesday Sport is run in the afternoon. Periods are still minutes. There are two periods and an assembly before recess and one after recess. Students can leave the School grounds to go to sport at 12.50. Sport usually finishes at 3.15 at school and at 3.00 at outside venues ( to give students time to return to school to catch buses)
LHS operates on a six day cycle. This cycle allows LHS to timetable classes of greater than 40 minutes. Longer lessons facilitate greater learning particularly in the practical subjects. The time spent moving from one class to another and from changing equipment from one group to another is minimized.
Activites that may be precluded by short periods can be accommodated in this cycle system. The problem of always having your subject timetabled on Wednesday's short periods or always being last period Friday is avoided by the cyclical timetable.
Students are issued with individual timetables and quickly get the idea of how the system operates.
In 2006, LHS will operate on a Week A and a Week B model. This structure will fit in better with our new junior curriculum model (see JUNIOR CURRICULUM).
We expect students to attend all of their lessons each day school is open. If a student is absent for any reason we expect a letter from his or her parent to be returned with the student on the first day of return. Students can sign out if they need to leave the School grounds on activities approved by the parent.
Lismore High School has a late room for those students who do not arrive at School on time eg late bus. Senior students involved in Tafe or study off line can sign in when they arrive at school. Please note that this is a priviledge that will be recinded if the signs in having missed a class.
Partial and full day truancy can affect Government Payments such as Youth Allowance ( Austudy / Abstudy).
Please contact the Deputy Principal or Head Teacher Administration if you need to discuss any part of the attendance policy.
