Disclaimer: Lyrics by Vincent Leigh of Invertigo.

Authors notes: Um, the whole thing might seem a little jagged and probably wont flow too well. Thing is, I was desperate to write a fic, and this was the only thing that came. So, yeah, its going to be crappy.

What If Its Me
You say you gotta take off
Meet the one youre meant to meet

I have to go.

Four little words, and they stabbed him in the heart. He wanted to beg and plead with her to stay, to not leave him. But the words refused to form, and he could only stare.

But she didnt move. Hes waiting for me.

He continued to stare, hoping that she would see in his eyes what he couldnt say out loud.

IllIll see you later.

You say you have to move on
And you cant do that with me

But still she doesnt turn to leave. She does lower her eyes from his gaze, as if ashamed. Im not sure if I love him, but I have to find out. I have toI mean, wewe didnt She trailed off.

He, too, turned away, unable to keep looking at her. It was hurting. He never thought it would end this way. Was it ending? He wasnt completely sure.

I never thought things would get thiscomplicated between us, she said.

I say that you might regret
That you dont know what it means

He finally speaks. But it did.

It was never supposed to.

He could only repeat himself. But it did.

I say that you wont forget
What we had so easily

When words had failed him during all the other times such an occurrence had happened, they were now tumbling out of his mouth in a jumble of thoughts and feelings.

Damnit, it did happen! We fell in love with each other, and thats not something you can just throw away and pretend it never happened. That we never happened, because we did happen. Youre right, it was never supposed to happen. We were just going to partners, friends, and thats it. Nothing more, right? But it happened, and we had something. Now, you just want to just throw it away for some hunch that maybe he feels something for you?

Once you make the wrong move
We cant be right again

He had to stop, the next words lowering his voice. That you might feel something for him.

Once you say that were through
Were through, that the end

I She had no reply to his sudden outburst.

What if its me the one in your life?
What if we lose forever just to realise?
What if its me?

Now that he had started, he didnt want to stop. Not until she had heard what he had to say. Weve been togetherawhile now. We had something, but we had decided that maybe it wasnt real. But I think we were wrong.

He paused, waiting for her to look at him again. I think we were meant to be.

You think you know whats missing
Cause you dont find it in me

Now it was her turn to be at loss for words. Although she had always suspected, hearing his thoughts out loud made her feelsomething. Something she had been trying to push away for a long time.

Without much conviction, she said, Youre wrong.

I think your mind is guessing
When youre supposed to believe

He knew her, much more than she realised. No, Im not.

He looked closely at her. The nervous way she was biting her lower lip, then the way she lifted her head proudly, and the way her hands curled against her side. He knew her every reaction, and what each one meant. She was trying hard to not believe a word he was saying.

And you know Im not.

I dont know what youre gonna need
If I wanna get you to stay

What do you want me to do? she asked, a tremble in her voice.

Stay. Finally, he was able to say the one word that really mattered, the one word he had always wanted to say.

Buthes waiting for me

I dont know how its gonna be
But I know its safe to say
If I was just once in your life
I could always be one more time

Ive been waiting for you all my life. I found you, but then I gave you up. Not again.

Tears had started to form in her eyes, and they slowly slid down her cheeks. She quickly wiped them away. For the first time in a long time she was finally able to be honest with herself. I dont want to go.

Yeah you just might wanna think twice
Cause once youre out
Youre out and thats the end

Five little words, and they sent his heart soaring. He wanted to kiss her, to hold her and assure her that she had made the right choice. But he didnt move, unsure of her next words.

But she said nothing.

He took a hesitant step towards her, offering his hand to her. Then dont.

She smiled at him, placing a hand in his and further decreasing the space between them. She had made her choice. The right choice. I wont.

He had to be certain. Are you sure?

She nodded, never having been more sure in her life. This is a new beginning for us.
