| Bio is the abbreviation for Biology. Of course, in some languages, like French, this word might be pronounced "B-O," which in America, land of the free and home of the B.O., is a very unpleasant odor reeking from one's hairy underarms. Historically, in mid-twentieth century America, cartoons were produced that linked B. O., the abbreviation for Body Odor, to the bassy, drawn-out sound of a foghorn ("BEEE-OOOO"). One can also find references to foghorns in cartoons with the hillbilly Looney Toons character Foghorn Leghorn. There is no character named Shoehorn, yet if he did exist, I'm sure he would hail from Montgomery County, Maryland, and act as a wedge, kind of like a wedgie, if you're familar with how the wedgie process works. However, there is an American comic strip entitled "Shoe" and an amusing They Might Be Giants song that says, "He wants a shoehorn, the kind with teeth. People should be shot for stating their belief. He wants a shoehorn, the kind with teeth 'cause he knows there's no such thing." It's quite a catchy tune, but there's also no such thing as Martians, which makes me wonder why They Might Be Giants didn't include a verse that says, "He wants a Martian, the kind with teeth," etc. Of course, if there were such things as Martians, then a new branch of Biology would be designed to study the physiological make-up of these little green men. And on the seventh day, we would call this new branch of Biology "Martian Biology." Subsequently, generations of Martian B. O. students would endlessly complain that their major stinks but would also end up with a B.O. degree called "B.S." And now it's time for a pornographic head. |
