APPEARANCE: Crystal is rather small in stature, but big in determination! She has long, wavy, nearly-black hair and striking gray eyes. Before she became a Stormer she always dressed in a mixture of New Age/Hippy/Pagan/Goth attire. Then after she was introduced to the realm of Ayle with its elves...dwarves...fairies...knight and maidens...she started dressing in their attire. The best description would be flowy, Medieval-looking gowns...usually in black because of she and her companions' need for stealth. She is now a priestess of Dunad, so she wears the broken sword symbol of Dunad on a chain around her neck at all times.
Recently Crystal became a full member of the Mystery Men of the realm of Nile, and as such finally got to think of an alter-ego name and design her own superhero costume! She chose the name "Black Raven" because her hair is almost black and she always wears black, and because her main super-power is levitating. She also chose it because she revers the Celtic raven-goddess Ceridwen, because the raven is a symbol of London and both of her parents are from London, and because both she and ravens love shiny crystals and stones!
Her suit-- of course-- is made of a tight but stretchy spandex-like super-material, and is a black matte color. The boots, belt, and gloves are a shiny latex-like black, and the cape is long, shiny-black with matte-black feather-designs all over it, and the bottom is cut to look like wings. Her cowl covers her head and neck except for her mouth and chin, and looks like a raven-head, complete with more black feather-designs to match the cape. She likes to wear the suit under her gown so she can quickly burst out of her gown and go fight crime!
PERSONALITY: Crystal was an avid earth-activist before becoming a stormer, and had extensively studied many of the different pagan cultures and religions of Earth. She had picked and chosen what she liked from each one to form her own belief-system. Because of her talent in singing, she decided that her weapon in bringing peace and nature-awareness to the world would be through her music.
Her first album was popular with the New Age crowd, but didn't get much main-stream exposure because it was too...peaceful. So her agent talked her into writing her next album with a full metal band, and the result was so ground-breaking that Crystal sky-rocketed into fame soon after it was released. Everyone loved the combination of her soaring, powerful vocals combined with a heavy sound to back it up. (in our reality the band could be closely compared to Evanescence, only with more pagan-themes to the songs rather than love-themes)
Crystal has been described as a little...air-headed. Perhaps even a little ditsy. But that's only because she grew up in such a liberal, open household that she's not used to thinking before speaking! Also, she never learned anything about self-defense, so suddenly being thrust into the role of Stormer-- a "knight" who fights evil in all the realms that have touched down on Core Earth-- has been a little nerve-wracking for her at times, and so...her other speciality is going invisible! It's not that she's a coward, it's just that she can't fight!
However, Crystal can be very stubborn and in-your-face...even deadly if someone treats she or her friends badly or attacks them. She's learned many dangerous clerical abilities and finally feels like she's more of a help to her friends and fellow Mystery Men!
"Who Am I?" by Crystal Lake
"Crystal Lake" is not my given name. I know that's probably obvious, but it's amazing how many people don't know that! I was born Natasha Harrington. I'm the only child of two English writers, and when I say "English writers" I mean they're from England and they're writers. My parents are Daniel and Heather Harrington. They met in college at Oxford in a writing class, of course. They were both fascinated by the romantic, mysterious, rich culture of New Orleans, so when they got married they went on their honeymoon there, fell in love with it, and after they graduated they moved there permanantly. That's where I was born and raised. My parents write separately, but occasionally they come together and co-author a series. My father writes horror/mystery, and my mother writes romance novels of the supernatural kind, so you can just imagine the stuff they come up with together!
When I started school I had an English accent. I had it for a few years, I was told. Then I quickly un-learned it to try to fit in with the other kids. I never got the thick Louisiana accent that some people had because I was already self-conscious about how I spoke. I soon learned that when we sang in school choir NO one had an accent, so I loved singing in choir! That's how I found out I could sing. I've been singing since grade school-- getting almost all the solo parts. That was my little thing. If you've seen any specials on Mtv or VH1 about my life, you've probably seen all the footage of me singing as a little kid in choir, or in school plays.
My parents took me site-seeing a lot growing up, and took me to listen in on voodoo priestesses' and priests' lectures while doing research for their books. I didn't latch onto voodoo, but it served as an introduction into the world of witchcraft and paganism when I met a witch sitting in at one of the open rituals. But I don't like structured religions with hierarchies, so I didn't embrace the Craft, but I loved everything they taught me about herbs and astrology and divination and the earth as our mother and the elements and seasons, but especially crystals. That's my other thing. Crystals. I've studied crystal-healing extensively, and am quite adept at locating people's injured or afflicted areas with them. Some people call it a form of Raiki, or energy-manipulation.
My third passion is England. My parents have taken me back for Christmases with their families, for spring breaks, summer breaks...I've been a lot! And I love everything about it-- I just soak everything up! I was actually in the process of buying a house there-- my agent told me about 2 different homes, one outside of London, and one in the Lake Country in the northwest-- before all this mess came down. That's where I came up with my new last name "Lake." I love that place!
But now my agent is dead and I don't think I'll be returning to Earth as a permanant resident. That brings me to my fourth and final passion! Dirk Smalls, aka Blue Scarab-- one of the original Mystery Men from Nile! *long, contented sigh* He is SO handsome! So wonderful! So big! So...Dirk! I think I fell in love at first sight! I love everything about him-- the way he looks, the way he talks, the way he stands, the way he walks...ooh! I think I have the beginnings of a new song! Anyway, I finally got him to ask me out, and then...well...let's just say it was the most incredible night of my life!
And that led to something else just as wonderful. I am pregnant with his child! Luckily by the time I found out about this he had also fallen in love with me, and we just got married at Smalls Manor!! Oh I am the HAPPIEST girl in any of the realms!! Now that Dirk is a Stormer like me he can travel to any realm with me! Which brings us to the matter at hand: which realm should our baby be born in? If it's not a Stormer like us, it will be stuck in that realm forever so we have to pick wisely! Oh the choices!!"
