Spin the bottle

Authors Note: Your right Ally, does anyone ever read these? No, the firm have just won the law suit The Robins family filed against them, and they are celebrating (it's not Xmas time, like in the show), and I am letting Helen come along, Bobby and Lindsay aren't actually a couple yet, just sleeping together.

Disclaimer: DEK owns all, don't sue me, sue Alison, she claims to need excitement!

Boston courthouse 1pm.

"The jury's back guys" A bailiff called into the courthouse conference room.

"Already?" Ellenor yelled exasperatedly to the closed door, the bailiff had already left. "It's only been 45 minutes! This is bad, this is really bad." The whole firm had been on edge since this case had started, Jimmy was the worst. Bobby had chosen him to first chair this case, which involved Susan Robins brother and father suing the firm for defamation of character. Jimmy had done well, but the whole firm had had their doubts from the beginning, nobody felt confident about Jimmy, and now was his 'moment of truth.'

"Lets go, time to face the music." Bobby said solemnly. They all picked up their briefcases and marched off to court, trying to keep their heads up as high as they could, in spite of the clouds of depression threatening dangerously to burst over their heads. They took their places at the desk, all smirking at Tommy Silva as they passed. Tommy Silva was the lawyer representing the Robins.' The strain was showing on all of their faces, bags lined all of their eyes, and as hard as they tried to suppress their nervousness, but their edgy movements as well as their restlessness gave it away.

The foreperson stood up on cue and read out the paper she held in her hand. "Robin versus Donnell, Young, Dole and Frutt, one the charge of negligent infliction of emotional distress, we the jury find in favour of...." All of the lawyers in the room held their breath as the next word was read. The foreperson continued "...in favour of the defendant!"

A relieved sigh went up from Bobby, Lindsay, Ellenor, Eugene and Rebecca. Jimmy just sat there, he was in shock, he had tears brimming in his eyes. Finally, after all the years of self- doubt, he finally felt like he may be good enough. He leaned back in his chair as his colleagues patted him on the back. He vaguely heard Lindsay suggest they all go out to celebrate, but only vaguely, he was on cloud nine.

McCalls Pub 7pm.

Ellenor, Bobby and Eugene were seated in a booth waiting for the others. They were all still smiling, elated at their win today, so happy in-fact that Bobby had promised to pay for drinks all night. Ellenor and Eugene were sitting next to each other, Bobby was sitting on the other side. Bobby had strategically planned this seating arrangement, he was going to make sure Lindsay was sitting next to him. As he thought this, the door opened letting in the bright glow of the setting sun, standing in this light was an angel.

The light made her hair shine beautifully, and her smile lit up the world brighter than the sun ever could. She wore a knee length, denim- hipster skirt by Calvin Klein, that showed of her curves perfectly, and a pale pink singlet which hugged her figure nicely. She had the sophistication of a forty- year old, and the body of a 21 year old. God, she was beautiful.

Lindsay walked into McCalls and immediately spotted her friends. As she moved over to the table, she smiled, glad to see that she would be sitting next to Bobby. She took in his appearance, he was wearing dark blue denim jeans by Tommy Hilfiger, and a white button up shirt which beared the team logo of the Boston Redsox. The top button was undone, showing off some of his well toned chest, which she'd had the pleasure of seeing in it's entirety. The white shirt succeeded in bringing out his startling blue eyes, which never failed to reduce her to a blubbering mess. In a word...she thought...he was....perfect.

"Hey Lindsay!" A merry greeting came from Lindsay's co- workers, she smiled brightly, she loved to socialise with these people outside the office.

"Hey guys, where are Bec and Jimmy? I thought they'd be the first here!"

"Yeah Jimmy and Bec are coming in a cab together, there is some traffic the way they are heading, Bec called and said they'd be here soon." Eugene informed her, motioning for her to sit down. Bobby smiled as she sat down next to him, his left hand immediately found her thigh, and he moved it up her skirt slightly, and rested it firmly on her bare skin. She couldn't help but smile, wondering if it would stay there all night. He answered her question as soon as Rebecca and Jimmy arrived, Jimmy taking a seat next to Lindsay. Bobby slowly removed his hand, remorseful at having to leave the comfortable spot his hand had found.

"Guys, Helen said she might come down for a while. Is that ok? Cause if it's not I have to call her now."

"It's fine, everyone in Boston should be here for my victory party!" Jimmy said. The smile had not left his face, and he had not long forced himself from his shock and managed to begin speaking, to say he was ecstatic was a real understatement.

......................................................................

Much later on that night.

They were all far beyond drunk, the waitress had needed to make four trips to clear all the empty beer bottles off the table. Helen had arrived at about 8:30 and was sitting in a chair at the end of the table. The group was tipsy when she got there, so she was drinking double-time to make up for the time she lost. There was not-a-one of them who had remained sober, it was a Friday night and they were 'releasing the tension' of the week just passed. The conversation was amazingly incoherent, but as little sense as it made to outsiders, nobody at the table really cared, they were having such a good time.

Bobby's hand had once again found the bare skin of Lindsay's thigh under her soft denim skirt, and there it had stayed, going unnoticed by the others at the table, even Jimmy. He had been shooting winning smiles at her all night, and she had reciprocated by smiling her own killer smile, so much was going unspoken between them, but words weren't necessary, the smiles were saying it all. Bobby raised his beer and motioned for everyone else to do the same, then he eloquently began his slurred toast.

"To Jimmy, I knew all along that you could do it Jimmy, thanks for proving me right and saving all of our bank accounts!" They all laughed loudly as they clinked their beer bottles together in the centre of the table. Helen was surprised how at home she felt with these people, they were technically her enemies, and yet, they always invited her out with them, and she could always feel how happy they were to share their wins with her, even when it was her they had won against. She figured it was appropriate for her to make a toast of her own, she stood up unsteadily, spilling a little of her beer onto the floor.

"Guys, I would like to propose a toast, to all the D.A's you have that you all got a scare, I am even happier that you came out ok, because if you guys went out of business, my head would grow so big, because I would win every one of my cases, that I wouldn't be able to fit through the courtroom door!" Again, they all laughed, softly clinking their bottles together. Ceremoniously they all raised their glasses and toasted each other, just calling out the names of the person next to them and saying "to Eugene!" or "to Bobby!" This continued until all had been toasted, and new beers were called for. "Bobby," Eugene started, "You do realise, that tonight is going to cost you a fortune don't you?"

"I do Eugene, but I do not care because my firm is not going bankrupt, and I still have some money in my account. Plus, I have finally realised...I am in love!" He slurred these last words, and it made it really hard for anyone to understand. Except for Lindsay, she had heard him perfectly. 'He was in love?' She wondered how much he could possibly love this woman when he was sitting here with his hand on her thigh, and his fingers gently stroking her skin. She realised with shock that she was insanely jealous, and she already hated this woman, whoever she was!

"What Bobby?" Ellenor questioned. "Did you just say 'minlub?' What in Gods name is minlub?

"No Ellenor, he said 'I like duck!'" Jimmy said, taking a long sip of his now-empty beer.

Helen piped up next, "No guys, he said he was thinking of becoming a D.A!"

"You're all wrong!" Rebecca chimed in, "He said 'I am signing over the firm to Rebecca!" They all laughed at this last comment, nobody knew what he said, but Bobby was just staring into space, not bothering to correct any of them. But Lindsay was bothered. She looked up, there were tears in her eyes, she got the groups attention and spoke slowly "No. He said he was in love."

They all laughed again, they all thought Lindsay was joking as well, none of them had seen the tears forming in her eyes, that is, except for Bobby. He turned her head towards him and his eyes burned probingly into hers "Is something the matter Lindsay?"

She spoke frankly, she was too drunk to be secretive "Yes Bobby, I don't want you to be in love, because..." She looked up, sniffing like a little girl "....because I love you Bobby, I love you more than whoever you love will ever love you, I know that because I love you this much." She stretched her arms out as far as they would go, and she knocked over her empty beer bottle.

He motioned for her to come closer and he whispered in her ear, "Well Lindsay, only you would know how much this woman loves me, because the woman I love...it's you."

"Really?" She asked, not daring to believe her own ears.

"Really." He answered. He barely had time to finish talking, she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him wildly.

The rest of the firm noticed this, and were all staring shocked at this little scene in front of them. "Eugene wasn't very interested, he was too drunk to understand the significance of what was going on. He did, however, notice the knocked over bottle on the table. "Hey guys!" He called, a little too loudly, he pointed at Lindsay's empty beer on the table and said "I think they're playing 'spin the bottle!'"

The End
