Bobby's apartment 1:30am. Bobby was still awake, he was sitting up reading the files on a case he and Lindsay were working on together. It was really unnecessary for him to be working this late on this case, it was simple one, they would win. He figured though, he was working so hard because it distracted him from the chaos that was his life. He knew he shouldn't complain, he pretty much had it all. A steady but challenging job, a beautiful girlfriend, an office full of friends. But he never felt fulfilled, and he was pretty sure he knew why.
He turned his head when a soft sigh escaped the lips of the sleeping woman beside him. He gingerly traced the outline of the velvety lips. He gazed at her, she *was* beautiful. He had been seeing Helen for a little over three months now, and he had intense feelings for her, but he felt unfulfilled because, for some reason, all he ever thought about was Lindsay. He wasn't sure he was in love with her still, but, he wasn't sure he wasn't either.
He did, however, know it was stupid to be using this case to see her more often, they were both dating other people now, and damn how he envied her boyfriend. He turned off the light, and tried to sleep, staying on his own side of the bed. He fell asleep thinking about Helen and Lindsay, and not particularly in that order.

Meanwhile, across town. Lindsay too was awake. She was reading a novel, or at least trying to. All she could think about was Bobby. She stared at the figure beside her. Nathan had asked her out three months ago to the day, she was still glad she had accepted, he was the greatest guy- next to Bobby anyway- he was sweet, smart, caring, considerate, charming, and very good looking. He was a business man at a huge corporate firm in Boston.
Still, he paled in comparison to Bobby. She was always disturbed at how Bobby kept his emotions locked up, Nathan wasn't like that, he shared everything and Lindsay had to admit that it was pretty annoying, she missed the mystery and the closeness she felt when a feeling was finally shared. She really liked Nathan, but she knew in her heart, she loved Bobby. She sighed loudly as she turned the lamp off, and closed her eyes, thinking only of one thing, the next time she'd get to see Bobby.
......................................................................
Later that day at DYD&F. Bobby and Lindsay sat in his office celebrating their victory in court. They weren't surprised at their win, but they still wanted to celebrate if for no other reason than to delay anymore work.
"Well we won." Lindsay declared.
"Yep, we did, but don't we always?" Bobby asked smiling.
"We do, don't we." Lindsay's answer seemed kind of sad. Bobby said nothing, he hated Lindsay's moments of self-doubt, they got him thinking.
Luckily this time Helen burst through the office door. "Hi guys!" She said happily, she kissed Lindsay on the cheek before going over to kiss Bobby. As she did this, colour spread to Bobby's cheeks, he never wanted Lindsay to see this, but Helen was so forward. she pulled away, then said "I can't stay, I just wanted to remind you both about dinner tonight, you and Nathan will be there, right Lindsay?"
Her voice sounded kind of desperate, like she wouldn't have been able to handle a dinner with Bobby if Lindsay wasn't there, it was a strange change in Helen's tone, and it made Lindsay wonder if things were ok with her and Bobby. Why else would she want Lindsay and Nathan to go? 'If only you knew Helen, if only you knew' Lindsay thought sadly. "Of course we will be there Helen, I promised you last week didn't I?"
Helen didn't answer, she just smiled at Lindsay and then started out the office door. "Ok, remember 7:30 at Charell's ok. See you both there." And with that she left the office.
Bobby looked at Lindsay, he seemed really confused. "You and Nathan are coming?"
"Don't tell me you didn't know? Oh my God Bobby, I am so sorry, look I'll call Helen and cancel, it's no big deal."
"No! I mean, no Lindsay it's not a problem. It's just, did that seem a little weird to you?"
"Did what seem a little weird Bobby?" Lindsay had no idea what he was talking about, let alone why he was still staring at the door.
"Helen." He stated, pointing at the door. "I mean she practically begged you to come to what I thought was a romantic dinner for me and her, and she didn't even tell me you guys were coming. Do you think she's lost interest in me?" Bobby said this last part a little too hopefully, but Lindsay didn't notice. She was to busy being, well, hopeful. She decided it was time for her to say something.
"Um, I don't know Bobby, has she behaving any different lately?"
"No, no stranger than usual. I don't know." He sighed and sat back down on the couch. "I'll tell you this Lindsay, I am not looking forward to tonight.

8:30pm Charell's French restaurant. They had all finished dinner and were waiting for the coffee they had ordered to arrive. The night was going well so far, especially considering the fact that Helen and Nathan had been talking to each other the whole night, leaving Bobby and Lindsay to amuse each other.
This was great, Bobby and Lindsay were sitting across from each other, they were happily chatting about everything, from the weather to the next presidential election. Bobby found topics so easily flowed between him and Lindsay, he became more relaxed in one night then he had been in three months with Helen. Had they not been so wrapped up in talking to each other, they may have noticed that the conversation between Helen and Nathan had stopped, and they were now gazing intently into each others eyes.
The coffee finally arrived and the four of them started a conversation.
"Hey, I have an idea!" Nathan stated. The other three stopped talking and waited patiently for him to continue. "It's Friday night, none of us are working tomorrow, it's only 9:00..."
"This we know honey!" Lindsay interrupted, patting him playfully on the arm.
He smiled back at her "Let me finish. What I was going to suggest is that we all go to Macalls for a while, drinks are on me! Whattaya say guys?"
Everyone agreed, happy for the chance to continue the night, which all had thought was a big success so far.
......................................................................
They arrived at Macalls at about 9:15pm, and sat in a booth at the back. Bobby sat next to Helen and across from Lindsay, who was sitting next to Nathan. Nathan ordered four beers, and they settled into the atmosphere of the popular Irish pub. Everyone chatted freely, the conversation topics changed dramatically every minute, but that made it all the more fun.
About two hours and many beer bottles later, the group remained in the pub, still having a great time. Helen and Lindsay had swapped seats, Bobby wanted to sit on the end, and Nathan seemed only too happy to swap with him. The pub was still pretty full, the music was loud, but not loud enough to block out any conversation. As at dinner though, the conversation became segmented, with Helen turning her attention to Nathan, and Lindsay and Bobby, again left to talk to each other.
"Better night than you had expected, hey Bobby?" Lindsay asked, smiling coyly. "I have to admit, I am having a good time, and it looks like our dates are having fun too." He smiled and they both looked at the people beside them, they were deeply engaged in a conversation about God only knows what. Lindsay laughed at the scene before her. Normally she would have been jealous, but she was a little drunk, and having far too good a time with Bobby to even care. Her fun was heightened when his hand brushed against her thigh, and after a moments hesitation, remained there, like it was the most natural place in the world for it to be. It may have been strange how the night ended up, with Bobby's hand tenderly placed on Lindsay's thigh, and Nathan's hand placed firmly on Helen's.

Bobby stumbled through his apartment door at about 2:30am, he had had a great night, and Helen had decided to stay at her own place tonight, which was strange, but Bobby was too elated (and drunk) to care. He had been thinking about Lindsay all the way home, and now that he was there, he continued thinking about her. He didn't know how he worked up the courage to touch her, but he was glad he did, and even happier that she hadn't moved away, instead she had only smiled. He was in love with her, he had to have her, but there was one problem, and that was a size-4 hurricane of a woman named Helen.
Lindsay entered her apartment, and blindly staggered towards her bedroom, she tripped on a magazine stand, and went flying onto the sofa. Glad for the soft landing, she remained on the sofa, too drunk to move. She settled into the sofa's soft cushion, she had worn a radiant smile which had not left her face since she had left the pub. She felt bad for betraying Nathan, but God she loved Bobby. "I love you Bobby!" She yelled.
It was the first time she had said that out loud, and boy it felt good, she decided it would feel much better if she could say it to his face.
Helen and Nathan entered Helen's apartment. They had not had as much to drink as Bobby and Lindsay but had acted as drunk so they had excuses not to go back to their partners apartment that night. Helen and Nathan were sticking to their promise about not sleeping together, not until they found the guts to tell Bobby and Lindsay. They felt bad about their secret affair, but they were really in love, and as hard as they had tried to avoid these feelings, they couldn't deny it. They sat on the couch, and Nathan placed his arm around Helen's waist, he looked into her eyes, conveying his love for her through his own eyes. "I really hate this secret thing Helen. But I love you. I think it's time to tell them." He kissed her tenderly.
"I know Nathan, I just feel so bad, they would never do this to us."
......................................................................
Sunday morning 7:00am. Helen and Lindsay had arranged to go for a jog that morning, and after much convincing, Bobby and Nathan had agreed to tag along. They decided they would jog around the central park in Boston. They chatted merrily as they jogged, but the tension between them was fairly obvious. However, the conception of the tension varied greatly between the four members. Bobby thought Lindsay was shying away from him and Nathan because of what had happened on Friday night. Helen thought maybe Bobby and Lindsay suspected something, Nathan thought the same. Lindsay was only thinking about how much she loved Bobby, and how upset she was that he now didn't seem to share her feelings.
After about the third lap of the 2 kilometer park circle, Helen collapsed onto the park bench. "That's it you guys, I am stuffed, you can keep going, but I chose to remain here!" She sighed dramatically "Anyone smart enough to join me? Well, I know Lindsay won't, damn exercise nut that she is, how bout you, Bobby?...Nathan?"
"I am definitely in on your plan Helen!" Nathan said, as he collapsed next to her.
"Well Linds, looks like it's just you and me," Bobby said "so lets get going, one more lap." He and Lindsay continued jogging, Bobby was glad Nathan had decided to sit out, he needed this opportunity to speak to Lindsay, and if the time was right, tell her he loved her.
They jogged silently for a few minutes, and then Bobby decided to start a conversation, he really wanted to talk to her, especially to distract himself from the tight pain in his legs. "Lindsay, about Friday night..."
"It's ok Bobby, I understand, we were both drunk and whatever, whatever. It was nothing...right?"
"Well, you don't understand then, because you're wrong, it was something, to me anyway. Lindsay, as wrong as it is, I have feelings for you, strong ones, and I need to know how you feel."
"Bobby...I...I have feelings for you too. I know it is so wrong, but no matter what Nathan does, I always seem to compare him to you, and you manage to win in every category."
"Every category Lindsay....?" He hinted playfully. "So how does he compare in the 'exercise department?"
"Bobby...Casanova doesn't even compare to you, so how is Nathan going to?"
He blushed a deep red. He didn't expect her to answer this question, but he was glad she did, he felt this was a great time to tell her how she compared. "Well Lindsay, to Helen, and I am not just saying this, you out rank in every field also. Really, with you, it was always so passionate, and I think it has something to do with the fact that it was never just sex, it was love. I have always loved you I think, I was just too stubborn, blind and stupid to admit it."
"This is all well and good, but don't forget the people we are likely to be hurting right now, I mean, what do we tell them?"
"Somehow Lindsay." Bobby replied, pointing in the direction of the park bench opposite them where Helen and Nathan were engaged in a passionate embrace with each other, "Somehow, I don't think they'll mind at all."
Lindsay was shocked, she knew something was funny, well her knowing was in the sense of having absolutely no idea, "Dammit Bobby! They've been playing us! Well I don't feel so bad anymore, how bout you?"
He took her in his arms, "Not too bad at all Lindsay." They too kissed passionately, before crossing over to the other side, and stopped in front of the two oblivious lovers.
Lindsay coughed an attention seeking cough. "Lindsay!" Helen and Nathan exclaimed in unison. "I don't want your excuses, either of you." She said sharply, before putting her arms around Bobby and kissing him, she smiled happily at Helen and Nathan, who were now in shock. Lindsay enjoyed their shock, but decided to clear everything up, she didn't want a lengthy conversation, she figured it would be easier to leave it with two simple words. So as her and Bobby walked off, hand in hand, she smiled over at them and said "We understand." And with that, they continued to walk off, both of them feeling fulfilled for the first time since they stopped sleeping together.
The End
