October 22 - The Mystery of Charles Mulholland
Maybe the disappearance of Charles "Chuckie" Mulholland is the only thing more mysterious than her name.  If anyone out there is an Incubus fan, you are sure to be familiar with the smiling man's head, especially on their older albums.  He is kind of like the icon of Incubus, if you will.  It is a mystery where he comes from, who he really is, why Incubus puts him on their albums since he is not a member of the band, or even his real name, but that's a whole different story.

I believe the most famous rumor that his name is Charles Mulholland, and when I adopted this stray cat off the street last month, she just struck me as a Chuckie.  Gender is pretty much irrelevant to me when naming things, and so that was that.

Anyhow, I'd had her for a couple of weeks and she was getting on with Felix and Penny, my other two (female) kittens quite well.  I went out of town the other day for a four-day seminar in Kochani.  I'd arranged for my friend Nikola to come to my apartment in my absence and feed the kitties.  My last night at the seminar, I received a call on my mobile from where else but my own apartment!

It was Nikola, telling me one of the kittens was gone.  I told him not to worry because I was sure she was probably hiding behind the refrigerator.  (The only rooms the cats had opportunity to go in were the kitchen and dining room, which has a door to the small square balcony where the litter box is.)  When I returned home the other day, much to my dismay, no Chuckie.

I looked in the bushes below the building, asked people downstairs in the post office, and searched on the street where I'd originally found her amongst her siblings, but no Chuckie.  I feel bad, and I wonder if she even survived the fall.  She wasn't a dumb cat, and I can't imagine her poking her little kitten body through the slats enough to actually lose her balance and fall to the roof of the post below.  I have still been looking every time I am outside, as this is not a large village.  But still no luck.  I hope wherever she is, she's ready for the snow, because winter is coming soon to Pehcevo and it's gonna be a cold one.
