The Ecuador Update
HOLA amigos!
Wednesday 16th April, 03 Bueno, here I am at a good... oh! 1,000 miles is playing!!! a good internet cafe (which coincidentally gives you the biggest, best slice of fab cake EVER with your hour of internet use.... Mmmmm, Ecuador is treating me well folks. We arrived akmost three weeks ago now.. after a long, druelling flight with American Airlines and their incredibly patronising staff.. "heyyyy, garsh... do you guys wan some CANDY????" That was the tone used for people of allll ages on our flight.. did my head in after 7 hours. The second plane was crrraaaayzy! Shouldnt have been allowed in the air after 1960 Im sure. We flew into Quito at night .. and were welcomed by a spectacular view of the city in the sky.. (its at 2,800m!). The altitude is affecting me a little now we`e back in Quito again. We stayed in a hostal in the outskirts of the city for a bit, a breather, before heading down to Tena for two weeks of jungle trekking and rafting extravaganzas! Was really fun. Our accomodation there was very basic, and very dark and depressing as it was slightly below ground and the ceiling fans kept you up all night, the loo smelling our damp room out, where all our wet clothes hung each night after being thrown off our raft each day. We were all pretty ill.. one poor lad even had to spend a night in hospital on a drip. The whole Tena thing was really dangerous really, we traversed many a slippery rock, scaled many a terrifyingly steep slope over rapids.. cut myself, bruised myself and generally fell down every scary cravass I came across. Was really good... my tummys getting better now Im back in beautiful Quito again. At the moment Im taking Spanish lessons and am staying with twio other girls, Helena and Iona, with an Ecuadorian family.. Familia Jordan. They`re really nice.. I think Rach would like son number two... 28 and very nice. Right up your street! Maybe try and get a photo... I have found a place to convert my photos to disk to put on the web so... watch this space. Have just finished one film... Well.. had a Salsa class last night, and today we managed to convince our teachers to take us to La Mitad del Mundo, where you can balance an egg on its tip, watch water go down a drain three different ways just a few feet apart, and see a whole heap of little squeeking guinea pigs!!!! xxx My teacher, Edith, wanted to eat one.. but I stopped her.. I think. Tengo que ir, pero voy a regresar pronto con ms noticias.... hasta luego x Lk
