| Accelerated Reader- Accelerated Reader is a computerized reading management system that we use at Russell. With it, students choose a book, read a book, and take a test on the book. The test is designed to assess the student's ability to comprehend what he or she has read. The program awards points to the student based on their test performance. The student can trade the points in for grades, goodies, or special priviledges. The Accelerated Reader Web site explains the system. Follow the following links to peruse the tests we have available in the library for students to take.

| Sustained Silent Readingallows students and teachers an extended period of uninterrupted reading for pleasure. Students will visit the school library, classroom library, or bring books from home to read during this 20-minute per block period. We have SSR two times a week -- on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you would like to know more, visit Jim Trelease's Web site where the Read-Aloud champion lays out the evidence. |
