French Online: A Motivated Lesson Plan
Lisa Denton 2002
Objective- The student will evaluate two French language Web sites using an evaluation form.
The student will write down ten unfamilar French vocabulary words and their meanings.
The student will identify two French rap groups using the Internet and give a brief discography.
Motivational Tools-Students' own interests, integrate technology, encourage questioning, real-world connections, end positively.
Teaching/Learning Method. Teacher and media specialist will introduce unfamiliar vocabulary from the Web evaluation form and lead a discussion in why it is important to evaluate Web sites. Possible questions: Do people in France use the Internet the same as Americans? Do French Web pages look the same? What would happen if a student used information from an unreliable Web site?
Students will work in pairs and groups. They will select two Web sites from the list recommended from the library Home page.
Student work will be handed in at the end of the lesson.
Teacher and media specialist will monitor progress and provide guidance as necessary.
Assessment. Teacher and media specialist will produce a rubric to give to students.
Students will hand in evaluation forms, word lists, and discography at the end of the lesson.
Resources. Web Evaluation form. (Power Tools, page 5.9)
French Web sites from list at http://www.geocities.com/lisajunedenton/sprench.html.
Conclusion. Discuss the questions that began the lesson. Did attitudes change after the lesson? Did they stay the same? Have a student record the discussion and post on the wall. Was anyone able to find a sound file for a rap group? Good time to play and review (in French) is now or next session!
