For many years after volcanic activity, volcanoes continue to emit gas fumes, steam, and hot water.  The hot  water contains many dissolved substances.  As the water comes to the suface, it cools and evaporates causing many of  the dissolved materials to precipate.

The rocks in these pictures are formed from materials that have precipated from the hot springs in the area.

The water was very warm and several people were swimming in it.
