My Scent Garden
My sense of smell is very sensitive.  I'm like a dog, always noticing scents, reacting to them, even if I'm not aware that I'm doing so.  I chase after a beloved smell like a hound, breathing it in so deeply I can almost taste it, scenting again and again until the fragrance loses its immediacy.  I love perfumes and scented candles and incense, fresh flowers and herbs.  It is a blessing and a curse--I can be moved by a whiff of a pleasant scent, but I also can be rendered nauseous by smells others don't find overpowering.  And though I am a very visual person, scent is the thing that most moves me. It is the sense most difficult to describe, but also, perhaps the most instinctual, the one most tied to emotions.  Scent can trigger memory like nothing else, the way the smell of baking can catapult us back into a childhood memory, or perfume can recreate for us instantly the person who wore that signature scent.
