| The Journal of Discipline and Desire, Books 1 & 2, are another stroke of brilliance from Laurie Mann! In a delightful first person diary manner Mann transcends an every day English businesswoman into a slave of blackmail, all because of her stolen diary. While protagonist Francesca Mildmay had always desired to be an enslaved submissive, she never expected to be forced into submission for the sake of her career. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| An elusive wealthy woman, known only to Francesca as Madam, begins Francesca's weeks with Sunday morning torture sessions. As "It" to which she is referred to while in their presence, Francesca is dressed and sent out as a prostitute on the street, sent on mysterious trips to anonymous clients who do perverse things to her. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Then walks into her life, Rock Hudson. A lorry (truck) driver who has not only the answers to her company's shipping fleet problems but begins his long conquest of her in his subtle means. From the very first meeting Francesca knew she wanted to be owned by him, but Madam stood in her way. Fearful of the older influential woman's control over her and the evidence she had to blackmail her with, Francesca tries her best to hide her dichotomous life from both Rock and Madam. Until the day Madam phones her at the office and says she's disappointed, Francesca thought she had been successful. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| As Mann weaves this page-turner between two books, the reader savors in Francesca's plight and insight through the pages of her journal. Between the blackmail and the conspiracy to bring down her business, the subplots are well gelled with a continuous flow that was never disjointed. Mann discusses the differences in dominant styles through Rock, and teases the senses with his innovative ideas. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Wondering if that's the last we'll hear of Rock Hudson and Francesca Mildmay, here's hoping for a third book to explore even more of the depths of Rock's dominant mind and Francesca's further adventures in submission. | |||||||||||||||||||||
