Have you wondered about the "rest" that Jesus promised to give us in that famous verse in St. Matthew 11:28? "Come  unto me all you who are heavy laden and I will give you REST"

Sigh--I remember many a time sitting in my chair, reading my Bible, hoping it would come to me by osmosis. Because I sure wasn't resting.  I couldn't figure out what "I" was doing wrong. "I" was "doing" all the "right" things..where was this rest? Maybe He meant come to Him "now", and we'd get rest "later".. like when we died and went to heaven. (quite frankly, the idea of floating on clouds with angel wings and harps for eternity sounded--well... errrr boring.)
Come unto Me, all you who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and lean on me, for I am meek, and lowly in heart and you shall find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
I went to church every time the doors were opened.
I "paid tithes" faithfully (scared God would revoke His blessings otherwise)
I sang in the choir
I headed up the girls club in church
I taught Sunday school
I tried to be a 'shining light' in my community.
I never said no when asked to do something.
I tried to remember to I John 1:9 myself every time I sinned (Of course "Grace" covered the ones I'd forget to ask forgiveness for)

Gosh--and I'm surprised that I wasn't "resting"??
Conclusion: I reckoned to myself (here in the  Deep South we "reckon" alot...) that since God doesn't lie, and "I" was doing everything "Right".. what that meant was to just keep on 'gutting it out for God", and my rest would come in the "sweet by and by"..

Only one problem with that.......
