| You will be expected to report information about a book you are reading at least once each quarter. In order to earn a C, B or A for your work, it must be completed on time and meet the requirements listed for each level. You must write in complete sentences, provide accurate information about the book, and the final product should show evidence of both time and effort. C Level: Provide all of the following pieces of information by using the Fiction Log or Nonfiction Log forms provided. Title Author Reading Level and AR Points Main characters names and descriptions Three new vocabulary words Setting Main Events Prediction Conflict Resolution Evaluation B Level: Provide all of the following pieces of information by writing an essay using the format below: Introduction -- Title, author, genre, AR points value, reading level and a brief introduction to the book Body -- For fiction: Provide brief descriptions of the setting, the point of view (who tells the story), the protagonist , and other major characters. Give a concise plot summary. Along with the sequence of major events, you may want to discuss the book's resolution, but be careful not to give away the ending. For nonfiction: Provide a general overview of the author's topic, main points, and argument. What are the important conclusions?Don't try to summarize each chapter or every angle. Choose the ones that are most significant and interesting to you. Conclusion -- Briefly conclude by pulling your thoughts together. You may want to say what impression the book left you with, or emphasize what you want your reader to know about it. (You may find it helpful to use the Fiction Log or Nonfiction Log worksheet to help you organize your ideas before writing your essay.) A Level: Provide all of the following pieces of information by creating a book review using the format below: Please include: Title, Author, Copyright Date, Publisher, AR point value, reading level and Genre information A drawing, picture or copy of the cover of the book At least one important quotation or selection of the book At least one quotation from a reader of this book (you or someone else) For Fiction: Provide brief descriptions of the setting, the point of view (who tells the story), the protagonist , and other major characters. | Did the author achieve his or her purpose? Is the writing effective, powerful, difficult, beautiful? What are the strengths and weakness of the book? For nonfiction, what are the author's qualifications to write about the subject? Do you agree with the author's arguments and conclusions? What is your overall response to the book? Did you find it interesting, moving, dull? Would you recommend it to others? Why or why not? |
