My Diamond Lady
Lady is an unregistered buckskin Quarter Horse mare born approx. 1975.  She is owned by Jane Bent.

Lady was "my" first horse.  I first met her at the Annapolis Valley Exhibition in Lawrencetown in 1989.  I knew nothing about horses, but I liked her the most out of all of the horses on the grounds.  I stood at her stall petting her for a long time and continued to come back to her stall frequently night after night to visit her!  This became my yearly exhibition ritual.  After a few years I met Lady's owner and even went to her house on a few occasions to visit Lady and her other equine friend(s).  Later on in years, Jane took me for some pony rides on Lady at the exhibition and one year even dressed me up in her show clothes so we could take some pictures.

In 1996 (March or April) I had the opportunity to lease this wonderful mare.  I had started taking English lessons in February so I could learn how to ride properly.  After I started leasing her I also began Western lessons at the stable where I boarded.  That first year I showed her in 4-H, a few Open Shows, and the Annapolis Valley Exhibition.  We didn't do terribly great (many times not placing), as I had lots to learn, but as time went on we improved.  We earned our way to the 4-H Provincial Show that year, placing 6th in Sr. English Equitation, 3rd in Sr. English Riding Pattern, 1st in Sr. English Pleasure, and Reserve Champion English Pleasure.  Then we sent her back home for the winter.

In March 1997, I leased and boarded her again.  She was 21 years old.  Knowing more and having a little more experience, we did much better that year in shows.  We placed more consistantly in Open Shows and Exhibitions (occasionally winning a class).  We ended up Champion Lt. Horse English Project for Annapolis County 4-H.  At the 4-H Provincial Show we placed 6th in Sr. English Equitation, 3rd in Sr. English Pleasure, 1st in Sr. English Riding Pattern, and Champion English Riding Pattern.

She was a great first horse to learn to ride and to be introduced to showing.  However at the end of the 1997 show year I knew it was time to move on to a new horse (my own).  As I gained more experience and knowledge I wanted to do more, but as Lady got older she was physically able to do less.

Lady is now about 28 years old and is back home in Granville Center with her ole pal Rocky.  As you can see in the photos at the top of this page, she is still looking good!
