Martie's Diary
-This is Martie's training diary in his own words.
Entry for May 07, 2007
My mom took me to that darn show on the weekend! There were so many horses, everywhere! So much to look at, so many new friends to talk to. It took me awhile to settle in Saturday night, I was very upset for awhile. Mom took me out to the practice ring later and lunged & then rode me. I tried to be good but there was so much going on - cars, twucks, trailers, little humans running around. Next morning mom came very early, just after it got light out, to take me out to the main ring. She lunged me and then rode me. We went in circles for a long time. When I was tired, we went out around the rail to ride. Other horses kept rushing by me. Sometimes it scared me but I tried to be a brave boy. I wanted to stop and talk to all the horses. Then mom decided we were going to go in the Novice Horse or Rider Pleasure (walk-jog) and Trail class. There were only 6 of us in the walk-jog. We placed 5th. Mom seemed really happy with me, she kept patting my neck and telling me I was a good boy afterwards. She wasn't real happy when I stubbornly stopped a couple of times in the middle of the class (once to have a poop and the other to see a horse that was coming up beside me). Trail class was fun! I think I like it. Mom had to pick up a bucket of rocks off of a barrel, carry it and put it on another barrel. Then we jogged to a sidepass (I didn't do sidepass as good as in practice). Then we walked over a bridge - that was so much fun (mom always calls me a mountain goat as I like to climb up on things!) Next was an L-shaped back-through. Mom was very happy with my effort. I tried to do it one step at a time like she told me to - I didn't always know where my piggies were though. Then we walked over a bunch of poles. Then mom wanted me to lope but I was just too tired by then, so I jogged. The rope gate was the last obstacle. I did real good & mom almost got the gate closed and then I got worried and started backing up, she had to let go of the rope. It was finally time to leave. I didn't want to get on the trailer again, but I was sum happy to get home! I missed Shy and momma Jessie.
