Click here to read a transcription | This is the last entry in Amelia's hand in her diary. It was made on February 25, 1882, and she died less than a month later, on March 24. She had just celebrated her 84th birthday. She had not been feeling well for some time, and the family was mourning the death of Dr. Ryerson (the father of Sophia Harris, Amelia's daughter-in-law), who had died in Toronto on February 19. Amelia died at Raleigh House, the home of her son George and his wife Lucy, but her funeral was held at Eldon House. Her will left Eldon House to her son, Edward, who had lived there with her for most of her life. |
