| GALATIANS
15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: 17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus. Galatians 1:15~17 History of the Churches in Galatia "Now when Paul and his party set sail from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia; and John, departing from them, returned to Jerysalem. But when they departed Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down... "And when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. And the next Sabbath al,ost the whole city came together to hear the word of God. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul. Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, 'It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. For so the Lord has commanded us: I set set you to be the light to the Gentiles, that you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.' Now when the Gentiles heard this they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believe. And the word of the Lord was being spread thoughout the region. But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, raised up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. But they shook off the dust from their feet against them, and came to Iconium. And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. " Now it happened in Iconium that they went together to the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke that a great multitude both of the Jews and of the Greeks believed. But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisioned their minds against the brethren. Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. But the multitude of the city was divided: part sided with the Jews, and part with the Apostles. And when a violent attempt was made by both the Gentiles and Jews, with their rulers, to abuse and stone them, they became aware of it and fled to Lystra and Derbe cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding region. And they were preaching the gospel there... " Then Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there; and having persuaded the multitudes, they stone Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead. However, when the dicsiples gathered around him, he rose up and went into the city. And the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe. And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, ' We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.' So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. And after they had passed through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia. Now when the had preached the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia. From there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work which they had completed. And when they had come and gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. So they stayed there along time with the dicsiples." (Acts 13:13~14,42----14:7,19--28) |

| Galatians 1:1-10
Lets began with some vocabulary Grace: Unmerited or undeserved favor. That response on Gods part, which is the basis for our restoration with the Father. Pharisees: A religious group or sect within Judaism known for carefully keeping every part of the law down to the smallest detail Law: Originally referred to the 10 Commandments later broadened to include any commandment given by God. In Pauls day it had come to imply not only Gods commandments but also the interpretations and applications that evolved around the scriptural commandments. There were 3 groups in the Galatians Churches False teachers who insisted on keeping the law but were unconverted men, Pharisees at heart Converted Jews who observed the traditions of their people without attaching any religious value to them Converted Gentiles who did not observe the Jewish traditions; their cultural heritage differed widely from that of the Jews. *Galatians was written to counter a claim that Gentiles must become Jewish proselytes and submit to all the Mosaic Law before they could become Christians. The central theme of Galatians is justification by faith. Reference Scripture ~ Romans 3:24 "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." The gospel of Jesus Christ is good news to rebellious creatures facing the righteous judgment of a Holy God. It is in fact the best news ever announced. The gospel liberates. It transforms. It saves! |

| The One Gospel
Galations1:1-10 1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) 2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia: 3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, 4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: 5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Paul is distressed that they have so quickly turned from him and his gospel6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. 1) Name the leading cities of Galatia (use a Bible Atlas) Antioch, Iconium, Lystra, and Derbe this was a region of Asia Minor which is now modern day Turkey 2) How was Paul made an apostle? God called him Site other Bible verses: Acts 9:15, Acts 20:24, Acts 26:16-18, Ephesians 3:8, 1 Timothy 1:1, 1 Timothy 11-14, 2 Timothy 1:1 , Titus 1:3 3) Why did Christ give Himself for our sins? (cf. Romans 3:21~26). " That HE might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God the Father." 4) What had some brethren in Galatia done with the Gospel? Perverted it 5) Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon Church, claimed that an angel appeared to him in 1823 and gave him a new revelation. The Book of Mormon now carries the subtitle: Another testament of Jesus Christ. If an angel had really given this message to Smith, what should he have done? He should have rejected it because it is was not from God because it was not according to Scripture. 6) What are the consequences of changing the gospel of Christ? All will be accursed 7) What happens if we seek to please men? You are not seeking to please God, it is one or the other, not both. 8) Who called the Galatians to the gospel of Christ? God Himself How? through the grace of Christ in Paul , who originally brought the churches of Galatia the Gospel. See: 1 Corinthians 15: 1~8 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. 8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. |
