IMAGES OF THE PAST! ... REMEMBERING IS LIVING   Continued...
One of the HONORABLE MENTIONS received by the Lira occurred during the "Noite Tauromaquica" of March 20, 2001 at the Portuguese Hall in Turlock.  The social event was organized by the newspaper Portuguese Tribune of Modesto to recognize "The best of the 2000 season."
The first annoyance occurred during a rehearsal with our first conductor, Mr. Manuel Veiga, who wore dentures.  Supposedly, someone committed a huge musical blunder and, instead of words coming out of his mouth, the dentures came out to the surprise of all those present.  The baton also flwe through the air.  Our deeply missed Conductor Veiga kept saying "Oh teeth from hell!" while reaching for his dentures between the legs and feet of the musicians.  He snatched them an immediately put them in his pocket and the rehearsal continued in total comradeship.
To this date, photographer Joao Freitas has never missed any of our anniversary celebrations to take our band's annual photo.  His contagious joy has always been a key reason for the smiles in the musicinas' faces.
In 2003, during the first presidency of Mr. John Ponceano, a decision was made to purchase a property located at 2600 Lander Avenue in Stevinson which became the headquarters and the hall to hold all the activiteis for the Livingston Band.
The first recording of Lira Acoriana of Livingston took place on January 14, 2006.  It was held at the Gustine High School auditorium, under the technical direction of Digital Wave Multimedia of Fall River, Massachusetts.  The original idea and the responsibility of execution of this great effort and accomplishment was coordinated by President John Ponceano.
Congratulations are in order to the president, Mr. Jose Matos, and his wife, Maria Gorete Matos, as well as the Board of Directors.  Congratulations are also extended to the conductor, Mrs. Elisa Azevedo Flores, all the musiciaans, fans, members and their families.  We extend our sincere wishes for a successful celebration of the TWENTY FIFTH ANNIVERSARY of the Sociedade Filarmonica Lira Acoriana of Livingston.
Before closing, I would like to ask this board and future boards the following: In order that on the fiftieth anniversary of the Lira someone else may feel the gratification I am feeling at this moment, that you must assign a person to be responsible, to archive photos, minutes, notes, newspaper clippings and copies of programs so that another person can have the satisfaction and joy of writing the journal of the next 25 years or, better said, OTHER SOUNDS OF THE LIRA ACORIANA OF LIVINGSTON.
