While I had walked past this location on a couple of occasions during a short stay at Maryton Park, the conditions were gloomy and dull. On this occasion the weather was pleasantly clear.
The sun was setting rapidly and in so doing, it cast a glow of golden light on the distant hills, creating a stunning backdrop to this quiet little spot. Scenes of this nature have always appealed to me because I feel that they exude a sense of peace and serenity, of relaxation and a laid-back lifestyle.
I used a neutral density graduate to hold back the exposure in the sky as much as possible. But even so, the sheer contrast of the scene meant that the foreground became very underexposed. Hence, I did some post-processing on computer to recover the detail and color. This final result is a close reproduction of the scene that initially caught my attention.
