Location:
Jacksons Bay, New Zealand
Jacksons Bay is located along the Western Coast of New Zealand's South
Island. It is a gently-curved natural ocean harbor that is sheltered
from strong winds, a quiet fishing village located about 50km from
Haast. Fresh fish and chips is available here.
The photo was framed to include part of the pier, using two small boats
as foreground interest, and thick clouds and mountains as the backdrop.
To make the clouds more distinct and saturate color in both the grass
and the sky, a circular polarizer was used. This also reduced the
reflections from the surface of the water, causing it to appear very
clear. A neutral density graduate held back the exposure in the sky to
allow its full details to record in the image.
