Location: Clifford Pier, Singapore
An interest in architectural photography brought me to Clifford Pier on
a number of occasions, but usually at dusk. Using a small compass, it
was possible to estimate where the sun was going to rise, and thus
visualize the effect of the morning light.
With that in mind I returned early one morning, photographing scenes
around the pier even before sunrise. In due time, the photo I had hoped
for began to appear. As I was photographing this scene with the camera
mounted on a tripod, a man appeared and stood waiting at the gates at
the far end of the pier for his boat to arrive. This placed him within
the frame of the central arch, a fortuitous event, although he is very
small in the overall scheme of things.
