In the dark recesses of the ancient throne room the air stood as still as the time. Chambers had been hewn into the underground rock to serve as storage for valuable treasures. The long-forgotten races who had built" (to be continued)
The torches flickered playfully in the dim, still cavern, illuminating the face of a young girl whose smile alone could light up the most silent and dark caves. Her blue eyes glittered sapphire as she stared at a helm that shined in the torchlight at the other end of the cavern.
"Look, Gwydion!" she exclaimed, grabbing the arm of her younger brother who had been looking at the piles of treasures but now turned his head in a whirlwind of neatly combed long light-brown-blond hair.
"Weve found the helm of Achilles!" She exclaimed in her high whimsical voice that playfully stirred the air from its ancient slumber. Though she seemed to be gazing at the helm, her eyes were already far away, seeing visions of ancient heroes donned in mighty armour and armed with enchanted swords and battle-axes, fighting bravely the terrible monsters who once terrorized the earth.
"How do you know for sure whose it is?" asked her younger brother, his voice almost as high as hers, young eyes and bright red cheeks watching her, his feet following hers as she stepped over the coo,, hard cobblestones.
"I dont! But look at it, it must have belonged to someone great!" She grabbed her white dress and hopped nimbly over the floor, over what looked like rivers of torchlight that flickered and moved along the floor. Then she turned around and held out her hands to him, helping him keep his balance as he moved a little more clumsily over the piles of relics.
"Here, let me help you."
"I dont need your help; mommy said Im growing up. Im getting bigger." He objected, obstinately pulling his hands away. But his wide eyes looking up into hers seemed to tell her something different. She reached out for his hands again.
"Youre still my little brother, Gwydion, and little or not I still cant help wanting to help you." Their eyes locked for a moment and he replied quietly,
"Ok, Ill let you help me." as one who was giving in to something truly wanted all along but was afraid to admit.
