The present proprietor of this page was purported to have produced a pernitious pun during a previous repast.  Usually playful production of puns precludes smacks and whacks for poor unfortunate Gurgi (or, rather, the owner of this periodical), but in this case distance made such physical abuse inconvenient for the punned party

Perhaps a literary depiction of the situation would shed more light than mere preliminary introduction.  At mealtime a young man and young lady decided to speak to eachother in French. The young lady sat alone, and so the young man asked, "Pourquoi est-ce que tu t'y assis seulement?" (Why are you sitting there alone?) to which she replied "C'est juste parce que que je veux etre seule ce matin." (It's just that I feel like sitting alone this morning) The young man grabbed a salt shaker, and showing it to her, replied "Je te ferai sel!" (I'll make you salt!) And here lies the pun, because "seule" and "sel" are French homophones.

Fortunately the young man was not a-salt-ed after this incident.
