Armored Thor
Here's one of the sculpts I'm working on at the moment. I originally thought of modifying the armor to make it look more realistic, except I loved the form of the scale mail and so ultimately I decided for a comic-book approach. While I like Simonson's art, it looks too cartoony when rendered in 3-d so I just opted for my own interpretation.
These pictures were taken prior to polishing and some additional revisions. The cape will be added post-casting.
The torso had more articulation in the planning stage (including a new form of shoulder joint), but I liked the scale mail so much that I decided not to carve it. Maybe I'll sculpt it in after I've cast the torso.
The knee guards are rendered big in the books. I don't like how they look in 3-d, especially since they make the figure look short. One of the things still up for revision.
