Archangel

I love the design of Archangel's wings, so much so that over 12 years ago I designed and sculpted a 3-dimensional working protoype of those wings to go with a custom Archangel. I've since lost that prototype along with other sculpts when I moved house several years ago. In 2003, Toybiz released an off-model version that I felt wasn't really for me, so I decided to reconstruct my design.

I've always imagined Archangel--in his incarnation as Death--as a very visually-imposing character: a gaunt, tragically beautiful creature held aloft by impossible wings. Making the figure itself was straightforward (Spider-sense Spidey body with a new ball-jointed original headsculpt); I was left with the task of creating impossible wings.

To do this I designed, invented, and constructed fully extendable and expandable wings, with 40 retractable blades and which are capable of forward/backward and up/down motions (the original prototype had detachable flechettes at the wing tips, but I decided not to include them as they leave cuts in the blades' design). The whole figure has a total of 80 non-redundant points of articulation. It is currently the most articulated Marvel-Legends-style figure (Doc Ock supposedly has 61 points) and is, as far as I know, THE most articulated figure in its scale.
