| Pro-ana is short for pro-anorexia, and pro-mia is short for pro-bulimia. Without wanting to sound melodramatic, it's almost like a "cult" - sweeping through eating disorder sufferers on the internet like wildfire. | |||||||
| Pro-anorexia is where sufferers present anorexia or bulimia as an acceptable, normal lifestyle choice, rather than the deadly diseases they are.
Fasting contests are commonplace, and the pro-anas, as they like to be known, share pictures, asking questions like "am I thin enough", when they are already at the point of emaciation. There is also, worryingly, a fast-growing religion based around pro-ana. "Ana" and "Mia" have become Goddesses. -from www.stop-pro-ana.com |

| Pro-ana is very scary. It basically teaches people how to become even more sick than they already are. Personally I was caught in the whole pro-ana movement myself, swearing up and down that I was chosing to live that way and that no one should take that choice away from me. Now that I am in recovery I have come to realize that I was wrong. I never chose it, nor did I enjoy it. Please do everything you can to stop pro-ana! | |||||||
