| Location: Singapore When my friend asked me to help him (and another photographer) produce photographs for an actual-day wedding album, I was immediately hesitant and nervous. To my mind, nothing is harder to photograph than a wedding, an event where moments are of particular importance. In this case a photographer is expected to capture the magic of the event, to perform portrait photography under stressful and uncontrolled conditions, and to photograph quickly in a manner that would be flattering. Nevertheless I decided to sink together with them, instead of watching both of them struggle with it. The preparation leading up to the day and a whole day of photography was nerve-wrecking. But when all was said and done and the wedding album was produced, it nearly brought a tear to my eye. The couple absolutely loved it. Work on that day was easier than I had ever hoped it to be. Everything fell into place and we were welcomed with open arms. Everyone was obliging and performed well in front of the cameras. For this photo I suggested that the couple stand near a window and look at one of the buildings outside. While window light is not as harsh as direct sunlight, it does have directional qualities. This highlighted facial features and form. |
