We were fortunate to have visited the gardens just a day after a wedding ceremony took place at this spot. On the grass were two hearts, each shaped out of dozens of pink roses and petals. I could almost hear the cheer and merry-making from the day before, and see the smiles on the faces of the newly-weds. But now the place was strangely quiet and deserted.
With the sun directly above, contrast in this scene was very high. Obtaining adequate exposure of the trees and the shelter in the background meant that the details in the 'heart' were overexposed to feature-less white. To hold back the exposure I handheld a neutral density graduate in front of the lens with its direction reversed. This meant that the darkest portion of the filter was towards the bottom of the image.
