Squall is an excellent fighter and I only say that coz he really is on another level- my level. Credit where credits due, theres a lot of pretty good fighters in this Garden, but Squall is the only match for me. But every time I ever even come close to pushing his limits, Quistis comes down on me like a blizzard with a whip. She says she understands our rivalry but one day one of us is going to get hurt. Shes right there, but as for understanding, shes way off.

I have a dream. There has never been a whole lot for me in this world and this dream is the only thing Ive ever been able to hold onto. People die, or change, but my dream remains the same. I will be the Sorceresss Knight. I will face any challenge, sacrifice everything for this. Starting with Squall.

Things couldnt be more perfect: No Quistis, nobody around at all. Just me, Squall, some rocky terrain and a moody sky. And of course, our gunblades.

We begin. Our styles are different, our techniques vary, but he matches me blow for blow. He throws himself into the fight, intense but cool. I like to enjoy myself a bit though, but even as I provoke Squall with a smirk, I wonder if I can do what I came to do. My taunt works, he fights harder, faster, too proud to let even such a little smile stay. My eyes blaze as I fight back, starting to get drawn into the thrill of combat. But I know what I have to do and by any means necessary. I cant beat him fairly, but I have to do it, I have to prove it to myself.

Were not supposed to use magic in combat training, so the fire spell takes him completely by surprise. Hes blinking, confused- Cmon Leonhart, you think your opponents always gonna play fair? You have to react quickly or-

My blow cuts a deep gash, across his forehead and right between his eyes. Scarlet blood spatters the grey stone and pours down his face with his expression of pain and disbelief. There. I did it.

His shock turning to anger, I see the sparks flying from Squalls gunblade, see the blow coming, but I react too late. I feel the pain as he marks me the way I marked him. I could almost thank him for it. Hot blood seeps from my wound, but its Squall who hits the ground.

I wipe the blood out of my eye. I did it. I passed the test. To be a Sorceresss Knight, nothing can exist but her. I had to prove my dedication to my dream, prove nothing is more important. I know now I can make it come true. I just renounced the only other thing that mattered to me.

Sorry Squall, but I couldnt let what I felt for you get in the way of my dream.
