 ///NEON2011 was a group show entirely
dedicated to Neon Art. Central to /// was the way that light (or lack of light)
can create, inform, and shape environment. This was done through the neon art,
an interactive light installation, and the audience members themselves. There
were DJ’s, a set by Space Cabin, drinks, and some surprises. Part of the
proceeds went to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Light Lab and its
mission to nurture new work in this underutilized material. SAIC’s Light Lab is
one of a handful of such neon studios in a U.S. academic institution. Opportunities
to create and view neon art are limited, highlighting the importance of showing
this work.
