Mar(t)ch Madness
Mar(t)ch Madness was an art show and event conceived in the spirit of a certain famous
collegiate basketball tournament. The show began with artwork from 16
established and emerging artists. Over the course of four bracketed rounds,
viewers voted to narrow down the playing field to their two favorite artists,
and those artists then competed for the championship trophy. Artists could (and
DID) do whatever they could to court votes from audience members, to increase
their odds of victory. There were live DJ's and a half-time show, featuring
Chicago's own cheerleading team, The Chicago Spirit Brigade. After the crowning
of the Mar(t)ch Madness Tournament champion, there was a jock-rock-dance-party
tailgate reception, with live music by Ludus Lovestyle.
Featured
artists included:
Benjamin Chandler, Simon Gallo, CJ Hungerman,
Kristen Kaniewski, George Larson, Sooz Main, Keeley Marie Stitt, Charlie Megna,
Patrick Morrissey, Kevin O'Rourke, Jules Schmid, Anna Timmerman, Toad and
Stool, Chris Wood, and 2 wild card artists TBA at the event.
