Lady Fair

As I sit here thinking of you
Holding you within my heart
Saddened that my sense of duty
always has torn us apart

Fairest lady please approach me
on whatever terms you need
If you feel you must reproach me
tell me true, you are indeed

The one who has always owned my heart

Through the years I longed to hold you
but duty kept us far apart
distance that was long between us
very near destroyed my heart

Fairest Lady please believe me
never will I leave again
Never will my heart deceive thee
ne'er again to cause you pain

You that will always own my heart

Lady fair that so reluctant
fears to meet her gentler sides
Shy of one who greatly loves you
who through troubled times abides

Fairest lady, never fear me
never will I cause you hurt
but, far more than any, care
and ne'er again shall I dessert.
