At the holiday of La Fest Dell' Inverno the oak is crowned with the light of the newborn oak king. During the time between then and the next holiday, Festa di Lepercus, the God grows in strength and light. The oak is the God's symbol for this time of year.
Oak is a hardwood, whos ashes can be saved to produce lye, a chemical essential to the manufacture of soap. The hardness of it's wood causes it to burn hot and long. It's prolificy resulting from the multitude of acorns it produces and subsequent availability made it an obvious choice for firewood during the cold winter months. In this role it was and still is revered, for it's excellent use in this respect.
The regard for the oak as sacred has shown itself in other cultures as well. The druids of the Celtic people also revered it. It symbolized their 7th month which is May to us. Fidelity, strength, and endurance are some of the qualities associated with this mystic and heroic tree.
