How Magik Works

According to Raven Grimassi, Streghe' see magik as manifesting through seven dimensional planes which are believed to make up the inner mechanism for magik. The first plane is the ultimate, second; the divine, third; spiritual, fourth; mental, fifth; astral, sixth; forces (associated with the elements), and seventh; physical. These are also seen as spheres of existance, within the Tanaric path. Anything created or changed on one of these planes effects all the others. The change ripples across the planes in a chain reaction. Thought forms are made on the astral and in the echoing of this creation on the physical plane, magik is achieved. This is a further expansion of the hermetic law, 'As above, so below', which exemplifies the idea that everything existing at a lower level as in size (ie. the atom) exists also on a higher plane (ie. the solar system). There are several different systems for viewing this same process. Starhawk presents it as occuring through different levels of elemental manifestation, where the energy of manifestation begins in the realm of air as a thought or concept. Fire then infuses it with desire and motivation thus giving it impetus. Then water moves the flow of energy into the realm of Earth where it takes physical form. Before a new thing comes into being, it begins with someone thinking about it. They brainstorm and creatively bring forth ideas about how to bring the idea into reality. This is the effect of the fire stage of the item's development. Water cools the ideas and brings in the emotional component. In this stage one works on the practical planning stage of the project, seeing what will flow and work. Does it work? Magick is the stuff of creation itself. If it didn't work, we wouldn't be here. What is the personal benefit of using magick? Whenever one uses magick, they are creating and setting up in their grey matter a psychological mechanism. The human brain seems to work in such a way that subconsciously one will work for that which they desire in minute and nearly impercievable ways. The faith one has in magick can make it easier for them to reach their personal goals. Seeing how one relates to the bigger picture allows one to act more responsibly, and make better decisions, thus improving the overall quality of the individual's life.
