Round the fire

if you listen closely, you'll hear the wild laughter
that rolls like a wave on the echoes at night.
you'll look for the source, but find only disaster
and fire that is dancing up into the sky.

our shadows, they linger if just for the moment,
wondering if they should be going so soon,
for when time passes by you it roars just like thunder,
and life never happens how you want it to.

memories hide in the stars high above us.
they sparkle and shine, but they're so far away.
i think to myself, as we sit round the fire,
it's all i can do to stop counting the days.
